Yes the "casting" refers to the crucible process of making the steel rather than making a product from a mould.

In the day "Cast Steel" referred to Wootz , Damascus & tool steels, etc... Maybe not the casting you're thinking of .

Usually hard steel that requires some finesse. 62 HRC is possible at the tang ;)

It will of course sound different to a wedge on the strop but shouldn't ring when you strop unless you're lifting the spine & using excessive pressure.

If my eyes see an England stamp its post 1890 but I'm guessing not much post.

If you guys check the Wiki you'd think there should be a heap of Bengalls in Japan India & Poland too Dunno if that's the case tho.
