Finally got back to So on the Kanji. His translation is:

Becchuu(Specially ordered) Ippon-Rennda (First class forging)
Kobayashi Kinsei (Humbly made by Kobayashi)

It's like a cross between a John Barber & a Green Lizard only lots shorter :D

No experience at this stage to give you a comparison with anything other than Western razors.
All I can tell you is, the Iwasaki was easier to hone.

I'll ask So for a translation next time but the shave makes it immaterial :)

True. It also makes honing easier. The thinner hard steel at the edge is reasonably ductile.
