If it is a eBay razor or similar I would be more concerned about what is stuck inside the scales. The steel would be the least of your concerns.

The point is that after the "time factor", the grinding & and chemical means of cleaning , a piece of steel that hasn't been exposed to fresh blood is pretty damn sterile or tens of thousands of us...

"Baldy", one of our members has a great way of sterilising razors. :p
