Take a steel nail, cut off the spike and try to peen it over before buying SS pins/rods.

The color was just right and it peened over easily. The only issue I have is that they're a bit thinner than 1/16" brass rod stock.

I bought a box of pins at CDN Tire. This is a good reminder for me to take the snips to one of them to make sure they're brass through and through :D

Thanks for the tip. Where can they usually be bought?

1/16" brass rod stock (any hobby shop that carries RC stuff) or 1/16" brass nails (I'd love to get my hands on those as they'd make my job easier) for pins, #0W brass washers for b/w the scales and...
