+1 on what Glen said...it's easier to get great lather with hot water than it is with warm water and it feels so much better too. :D

It's a dual edge sword though as after your VERY hot lather...

I find it easier to get "uberlather" with a bowl that's at least twice the diameter of the brush. For some reason it's harder for me to get decent lather in a small container...the worst being a mug...
