Yes, it does have a unique character. I'm sure the soil from volcanic ash plays a big part.

I too enjoy the Da Hong Pao. I still have a little but unfortunately what I currently have is good but not an exquisite example.

And yeah, it's definitely big. An inch at the base (easiest quality Forster bit to source), and the fan shape does a lot in making it look even bigger.
