Here's a prop you won't see very often... A 2" cross section of a fuel bundle for a nuclear reactor. I worked at the HFBR at Brookhaven National Laboratory for almost 20 years, before moving on to other areas of the Lab. When a person of importance would retire from the Reactor Division, they would be presented with a piece, just like this one, of dummy fuel element, and i usually had to make them. Of course, theirs would be engraved with name and date... this one is not, but it's a great conversation piece.
In a real bundle for operation, there would be U-235 clad between the aluminum semi-circular sections shown... This piece obviously has no U-235... a complete dummy rod.
The Tower Brand razor delivered a great shave, as always, and is becoming a real favorite amongst my "no-name" razors...

There will be no SOTD from me tomorrow as my small way of observing the murderous attacks of September 11, 2001. While I was lucky to have not lost any friends or family in the tragedy, many others from around the world, and this area in particular were not as fortunate...
A close friend lost his younger brother, an FDNY Firefighter and member of one of the Special Operations Command units, Squad 18. I will not publish this hero's name, but if you follow the link, and highlight the names, you will see his image, and I encourage everyone to do so...
Fire Department of New York - Squad 18
This man gave up his life in an attempt to save others in the Twin Towers. I attended the wake and funeral, and it was a highly emotional experience for me... one that I will never forget. There were FDNY Ladder trucks, an honor guard and bagpipes playing Amazing Grace... a very moving experience...
May God keep all their souls....
