Week of October 31 SOTD - Saturday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower |
Razor: 5/8" Wade & Butcher "Special", Hollow, Spike Point |
Brush: 22mm New Forest 2211 Silvertip Badger |
Überlather: Castle Forbes Lime Shave Creme + Mitchell's Wool Fat Shave Soap + Glycerin |
Astringent: Thayer's Witch hazel (Lavender, no alcohol) |
Moisturizer: D.R. Harris Arlington AS Milk |
AS Splash: D.R. Harris Marlborough AS |
Result: I decided to use two new items I received recently - 1) one of my restores/rescales by Glen; the W&B "Special", and 2) my New Forest brush. I had initially acquired the W&B from Jeremy (aka ShavedZombie) but wanted to breathe a little more life and personality into her...So, to Glen it went. And this was the gist of the response I got from Glen when he got her; "Here's the deal", he said..."we can do this the easy way or the hard way...Leave me alone and I promise that you will not be disappointed" :). Translation (in my mind): don't even begin to think about telling me what to do :rofl2:!!! This "Modus Operandi" was a little outside of my comfort zone :shrug:as I like to be involved in my projects...but appreciating an artist's need for imagination and space, I bit the bullet and agreed...but all the while, I was thinking to myself: "What the heck is he going to do to my blade?", or "I hope he doesn't put something on it that I don't like", or "Please God...whatever it is, don't let it be anything that glows in the dark". Nerve wrecking waiting period I tell you. But at the end (a few days ago), it all paid off...Glen came through (see here), giving this Special W&B a beautiful polish and some vintage clothing. Now this W&B shines and is truly "Special"...and as most of you who have had projects done with Glen know: a wickedly sharp edge is the common denominator. Phhewwww! I barely made out of this one with my face intact. If it wasn't for the cushion/glide of the Castle Forbes/MWF/Glycerin überlather, this thing would have had a field day with my jugular. So, thank you Glen for a wonderful job and especially for bringing her back to life :bow. As for the brush; I really like it (especially for the price). It has good backbone and the tips are soft. The D.R. Harris milk/AS finished the job this W&B started and my skin feels extremely smooth and refreshed. Now feel a bit nostalgic and sad that a wonderful shave like this has to come to an end...but rejoice to the thought that there's always tomorrow. Hmmm...And what should I use tomorrow :hmmm:? |
