Another great shave!
Today is a SOML (Shave of My Life) instead of an SOTD.
Did a four pass shave for the first time WTG, XTG in both directions, then ATG. Up till now I've only done three passes WTG and then XTG in both directions. That gave good results and I wasn't able to do ATG.
My touch has improved a lot so I decided to give it a try and I didn't get any razor burn or nicks. An alum block to give my finger traction helped a lot. Now I know what BBS really means. My face is smooooooooooth. Still have a lot to learn but boy is it paying off!

Thanks Rene, I agree this is one of my best SOTD pics ever
This morning shave. After the last time used this razor off the C12K i ran her across the Shapton 16k. Fabulous shave. No irritation. Smooth. BBS
Rene-
Did you shave with the straight razor or with the helicopter?
Good shave this evening. White Bone Bismarck Sq. Point. ( my 2nd Bismark of the week starting my own theme) I muted the point on this razor, this one always seemed to bite me. Makes the shave that much more enjoyable.
HAVE A GREAT SHAVE.

Mark,
I see you got hooked on Henckels too, eh? (Kinda like hooked on phonics)...but seriously, who cares what makes them good shavers, they just are, LOL.
Well....what can I say, LOL? I just prefer hollows, but I think based on your post with your Henckels, you already know that. Thanks for the kind words maestro.
Fabulous. I love it
Doug,

Great Rene...Now you have started a new sport: The "Heli-shave", LOL. Which blade did you use, the helicopter's or the razor
Great looking Bismark Jim. Gotta watch out for those nasty tips. I have a Kamisori like that.

Nothing like a Hollywood shave (3 passes) on a workday. This razor may have been just OK yesterday but today it was the bomb! The touch up hone last night worked like a champ. Now if I can just get the Swede squared away, I'll be in great shape.
Prep:Hot Shower

Result: I read a post yesterday that suggested that in the ideal world the blade should never touch your face and the lather should serve as a barrier & lubricant between your face and the blade. I thought this was an excellent way to describe the pressure (or lack there of) in using a straight razor. I kept this in mind this morning during the entire shave. 2 passes and BBS. I'm getting very excited about next weeks Themed SOTD!
Have a great Thursday Gentlemen!
Glenn
Good Morning!!! I've not shaved in a few days but wanted to say thanks for all the great posts.
Glen, This is a great post regarding pressure.
http://straightrazorpalace.com/begin...tml#post750615
I love that wood. This, African Blackwood (as per Bruce and Rudy's suggestions) and Cocobolo and among some of the choices for my next Rudy creation. Next time, I may even go with a Shavemac knot
Tom,
That TI looks menacing under your special effects. Beautiful
Otto,
I love this Friodur of yours. Very nice
She's a beauty Mikael...from what I have read, they are fairly rare too.
Beautiful blade Grant. I think I saw one on the classifieds a week or so ago and was on the fence about it, but decided to wait. I should have gotten it (kicking myself :banghead:). Looking forward to see it featured again next week
Congrats on taming this beauty.
Glenn,
I have thought about this a lot during my journey as a wetshaver. On a macro-scale, this statement does make sense, but at the micro-level, it is nonsense (pardon the expression). If the edge of the blade doesn't touch the skin, there is no way on this earth that it will cut the whiskers at their base. The blade has to touch the skin. In my view, there are two parameters at play (aside from angle and pressure):
- Sharpness/smoothness (blade edge): The sharper the blade, the easier it becomes to cut hair. This, we all know
- Friction (lather): this is where quality of lather comes into play. The ideal lather will not prevent the blade from touching your skin, but will act as a barrier to reduce (or eliminate, in the ideal case) friction.
The interplay between friction and sharpness is what determines a shave to be irritation free or not. But, that's just my 2 cents.

Good, 'cause its a real looker. Great SOTD pic.
Robert- Myst feel like visiting with an old friend. Great picture, as always. How long have you been straight shaving?
Fonthunter - I love all the color in your SOTD. Having all the primaries makes for an interesting shot.
