Have a nice day,

Somewhere up there north, there is this guy who owns a few very nice razors and gives us some lovely SOTDs. I got delivery of this little beauty off him yesterday, and when I acknowledged safe receipt of the razor he mentioned that he has honed the razor himself and would love some feedback on that.
I have at the moment restricted myself to a small rotation of 3-4 razors as I need to get the technique up to a good standard first. I consequently told him that it may take a while till I get to try the razor and provide feedback on the honing.
This morning, however, I changed my mind. Time to change the rotation and try this one out.
Result: two passes and an effortless, smooth and close shave.
Thank you, Zephyr. :tu

This was a special one for me, so I held on to a good three-day beard. My first shave with my first self-restored and self-honed razor (being the first serious honing attempt). Not 100% baby-butt smooth, but darn close in three passes. Also my first run with a silvertip brush, for which:
+1!
The best shave in a very long time, for many reasons, one of which is English Steel, another northern folly (of so wilfully parting with an AWESOME brush)!
Enjoy this wonderful summer day, gents!

Robert, probably my bad terminology but I always class my 1st shave after honing as a test shave, to see how sharp and smooth I've gotten the blade.
Paul, blades are a matter of personal choice. Personnas are generally considered a middle of the road blade sharp enough and pretty smooth, many people recommend feathers, they are probably the sharpest DE blades out there. Personally I find them a little rough, for me Gillette Superthins provide the best balance of sharp and smooth. For my money though the best safety razor and blade combo is an Ever Ready/Gem 1912 with a PTFE coated Gem single edge blade. As close as you get to a straight shave with a disposable blade.
Today I decided to go small. The chosen razor is a well used and slightly modified Cataraugus SR. I don't know the original size but the blade is now 2.5" by barely .5" and it has a lot of hone wear. The nose of the blade was obviously shortened at some point in time but it's still a fine shaver. Great for a face shave and perfect for a neck razor.
Pre-shave: Vitos and Astroglide
Lather: Williams with a few drops of glycerin
Brush: Col. Conk Badger
Razor: Cataraugus Cutlery Co.
Astringent: Dickenson Witch Hazel with rosewater added
Balm: PdP Shea Butter ASB
AS: Aqua Velva Blue Ice
Shaved cold and was rewarded with a BBS face.

Good morning Gents!
Shave prep: Face wash
Brush: Haryali badger
Soap: C&E Nomad
Razor: Le Hospital Bayle Annonay, 6/8 round point hollow
Strop: nun2sharp's hanging leather strop
After Shave Splash: Vetiver blend
Notes: I practically never get razor burn, but I did today. Not quite sure what that was, but I just rehoned this razor. It was a slow and relaxing shave until I had to cut it short. Not a full BBS today. My AS helped a lot and now it's practically gone. I'll have to look into it before next use.

Even in the midst of summer when people are traveling, great SOTD pics are pouring in. I'm impressed, and thrilled to see your great posts guys. Keep it up, and happy shaves all around :)
