You're welcome. I only wish I had the time to go out shooting. I haven't been to the range in 2 months.

More adventures in honing :) I tried a different approach finishing on a Dragons Tongue and achieved wow sharp but not too smooth, hey ho! I'm hoping a few laps on the coticule will smooth out the wrinkles! Great fun learning the hows and whys,
The shave was close and clean but with a little irritation.

Grant, I was a bit behind as I had been absent for a few days over the weekend. I was nearly moved to tears by your post. It always puts a smile on my face to see your SOTD and please know that we're here for you brother!
Best of luck Bill!

Great shaves everyone!

Hi folks. This morning's shave was my first as a father, so I figured it was special enough to mention.
Shave Prep: 30 hours in a delivery room (and 48 hours since my last shave), hot, hot shower with Yves Rocher Ginseng Actif Daily Face Wash.
Brush: Vintage Rubberset (badger? I dunno...) whut I inherited from grandpa
Soap: Mama Bear Canadian Spruce Needle soap
Razor: Dovo Astrale with a tiny chip out of the blade that I'm going to deal with now that the whole 'childbirth' thing is out of the way.
Strop: RupRazor The Filly
After-shaving treatment: Neutrogena Men Razor Defense Post Shave Lotion
Note: I was asked about the bowl I use last time I posted a pic of my setup. It's not a shave-specific bowl; It's a random hand-thrown clay bowl form our kitchen. It's a much shallower bowl than it looks like, but I find it feels good in the hand and holds heat fairly well. It's a nice solution for now. Once I have the $ for a real scuttle, I may keep it in the rotation anyway because I like its looks and feel so much.

Blah, I totally forgot: Girl. Freakin' huge 9-pounder (which, if you'd met my 5'4" wife, would make you cringe). 30 hours in labour.
That shave and shower felt great, I'll tell you. I went for the Mama Bear and grandpa's old brush to give the event a little symbolism, I guess.
Oh, and I'll never, *ever* call the missus a wimp. Ever. Like, at all.
I'm sleeping home alone to-night because they're still at the hospital. I think it'll likely be my last good night's sleep for a long time to come.
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Start teaching her about the Straights NOW.
Prep: Hot shower

The shaves aren't going to be mind blowing for a bit. I tried to keep things simple so as not to clutter my Familys place while I'm here recovering. More than likely I'll get to head home in another 3 weeks or less but I have to tell you. I haven't felt [B]this good[B] in years. :) :p
HUGE congrats to JES on the birth of his daughter. I'm sure she'll bring you tons of joy in your life and hopefully not too much anguish...she is a girl after all :)

You're welcome Robert. I'm not sure yet when he's back(joke intended). He had back surgery from what I gather. I got home from work late and finished the scales off with Renaissance wax. Kingwood with about 12 coats of Tung oil on em. The look awesome. I'm going to try and pin everything up Tues so when He is able to shave it will be ready for him. The blade looks fantastic and I meade a set of twins. One for him and one for another W&B I had waiting to be done. Now I just need him to name em'!
Yes but if you notice they are very artistic and I sense they may be fake patina!! LOL You have to admit, The Boy has Style!!!!!!
Uhm, do we need to add another piece to how not to shave? #1 Don't shave in the shower. #2 Don't shave on the roof for god's sake!!!! Or take pictures their!!!
Wish you were around brother, I go 2-3 times a week when able if not hunting!
No shave today all as it was a long day at work but I'll go big time Tues!!!
Paul
Good Morning Gentlemen,
Hornm, great to see your post.
Prep: Shower
Strop: SRD
Brush: Cheap Omega Boar, from the local corner shop
Soap: Speick Stick
Razor: Dovo Master's
AS: Alum Di Rocca Naturale

Nice fast shave today, early to work, lots of meetings to prepare for and try and get an exit permit, planning four days away from Thursday, to catch up with my Daughter.
Have a Great Day.
Hi men!
Where: Rocky Mountains
When: Late
Soap: Old Spice vintage (that soap is amazing)
ASB: Tend Skin
AS: OBR+S+C
Brush: WD 22mm Pure Badger
Razor: Genco Henry's XX (Thanks Travis!)
Strop: HM Paddle (50/100)
Tonights shave was scary sharp. This Genco will split an atom. One pass on the cheeks, and SMOOTH!!!
I got a little carried away with the razor burn tonight, but it was worth it. Cold water shave, and a little styptic and I am a happy boy...
Happy shaves!
Mike

Wooohoooo...Another Wapi lover/owner. Fantastic Michael. As to the scales, these are original stainless steel ones, right? if so, I would keep it.
Thank you Rune...Well, the spine has some of the original blacking and I don't want to have it polished out/restored yet. At some point, she may visit Max for a minor clean up (the small spots that are annoying). She's an incredible shaver though.
Arko taking over MdC? Go figure, LOOOOL.
Mikael,
Now, I understand why she takes a back sit to these other gems.
Rune,
The perils, trials and tribulations of straight shaving, eh? Makes DE shaving look like a walk in the park, LOOOOL. Glad to hear that you're pushing the envelope of this Wacker's edge. Well done. Don't worry, in time you will find that not edges are created equal. Some are better than others and everyone's experience varies in this regard. have fun with the experimentation and discovery phase of straight shaving brother.
She's a beauty Rene. Congrats on a great score...How did you like the RR SS?
PS: Hope you weren't too stressed at work
You're welcome...I am very anxious to hear about your Mediterranean trip (I think it was, right?)
Nice piece of steel King
OMG José, Consider yourself very very lucky. That almost never happens. Results are usually not thinkable. I am very happy to learn that she's perfectly fine
Jeff,
Absolute bliss...What else can a man ask for?
Stunning blade Chris. I love it (literally from head to toe).
Great shave Dunc...sounds like you're soon going to be in the dog house, well...unless the house is in tip top shape, LOOOOL. When does SO return?
Well jack...I guess that happens once in awhile too. Great DE btw
Tim,
Congrats on both the shave and the honing. It is a fantastic and satisfying feeling. Well done
She is beautiful Robert. And yeap...you dose off too far into your zen, and she will bring you back. They're all like that. Just have to show her who's boss (her most days, LOOOOL). That makes me want to take out my Iwasaki for a spin sometime before this week is out.
Hey Nic,
Sorry about the irritation, but congrats on your experimentation. it is the only way to have fun and learn. Keep having fun and looking forward to hearing (or rather reading) about your honing adventures.
Tesite,
That is one sexy red handle on that Vie Long
Frank,
Another beautiful and relaxing shave my friend. Well done
Glenn,
Neither does the MdC...The two make for an unbeatable dynamic duo. Excellent
jes,
Forget the shave brother. CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a father of a girl. I bet you're on cloud 9 right now (and tired).
Look who's back. Great hearing from you buddy. You've been on my mind these last few days. Congratulations on a successful operation. How's your sister?
Love that Dovo ED...Great choice. I heard about the 444...it performs wonders but smells rather "meh"...Thoughts?
Paul,
Can't wait to see these works of art. Congrats and will pray for Nervin
EA,
What a wonderful occasion...Where will you meet your daughter (Greece?)? At least we have you for another couple of days before your departure.
Wowww Mike...What a shave. Congrats on a great razor and if that Old Spice scent is anything like I remember from my grandpa's AS, it is bound to be amazing
Its late and I need to sleep. Shave took longer than normal due to me learning this blade. Close and comfortable though.

Buffff, Robert, what a painful situation, but I am gulty, I was using a straight razor holder ( a gift from Maite, my barber) and it was difficult to keep its balance ... then I'm happy too to receipt only a lesson and not the true punishment that it would be the lost of the maxterpiece....
I agree, I consider me very lucky... to post among you and enjoy this site with such a great people as you Robert,....the razors are important, but I am sure that we are here for the friendship
Prep: Hot shower
Brush: New Forest

Prep: Hot Water Rubdown
Strop: 40/70 linen-to-latigo
Brush: AOS Pure Badger
Razor: Greaves 7/8 wedge with custom bloodwood scales
Soap: The talented Mr. Martin De Candre
Results: This is my 4th or 5th shave with MdC, and I'm still trying to figure out the right water balance. I keep feeling that I'm adding too much, but the soap feels like it's drying out my skin, which I'm more inclined to believe would indicate too much soap. Either way, it's a beautiful shave soap with an intoxicating scent.

Sorry for the recent lack if activity on here, gentlemen. I was a leader for pre-k VBS last week and came home drained every night. 20-25 3 and 4 year-olds tend to do that. Been trying to keep up with all the posts, though. Beautiful shaves, my friends.
