No nonsense, but this was the first time I used the Heljestrand since honing and it really made me wish I had the time to do the whole thing even though it's not an ideally sized blade for that, the edge is jumpin'!:y

Solingen 7/8" - 1 Pass
Crown and Sword 4/8" - 1 Pass
Best Badger brush
Coral Skin Food
A mediocre to good shave this morning, but I wasn't happy with the edge on the Solingen - not sure if it was the blade, or the two days of growth causing the pulling. I'll touch it up on the pasted strop.
Rich - Lilac Vegetal?
I skipped today's shave.. The AC was a bit much for me lol

L'O CADE soap

Tony Miller 3'' strop
7/8 Smith & Hawksley vintage wedge (beautiful razor with ivory scales)
L'O CADE AS balm
THought I had the S&H honed well (HHTs). Made lather for the neighbours and went at it. Um, unquestionably the dullest razor I have ever used to complete a shave. Stubborn to the point of stupidity (I have a bunch of shave-ready excellent shavers)
No nicks or cuts but the red spots on my neck are nothing to sneeze at. didn't even think about the alum, and am expecting some serious burn
I think I will be buying a fine finishing hone (this time I only did 8K)
Ivo, give it a bit of a touchup on the Norton first. It looks like you just didn't give it enough Norton-lovin'. Some blades will pass the HHT without being shave ready, while others will never pass it but still give you amazing shaves. If I were you, I'd do about 15-20 passes on the 8k, with gradually decreasing pressure, and then a 1-5 1-5 finished with a VERY gentle 1-8. You should notice an improvement in the shave performance and depending on how far along it is, you may even bring it up to snuff.

C-MON 9/16-5/8 sp wedge
Ever Ready brush
Ivory bar soap
ceramic scuttle
Second time using the C-MON and it was one the best shaves yet. It glided smoothly over my face and took the three days growth off quite easily. First pass was done in about 6-7 minutes and a reverse pass and touchup totalled twenty minutes. I'm getting better at a methodical second and reverse pass which is cutting down on the overall shave time. but I'm really impressed with the C-MON especially since I honed it myself. I'd like to get my hands on at least one more so if anyone here has one and is looking to sell it or knows where one might be available I would definitely be interested. :tu

I wonder what is this TI like compared to, say, 7/8 Helje, 8/8 W&B, etc.Quote:

Overhoning is an overblown fear. It only happened to me once and a quick pyramid on the JP slipstones fixed that right up. The beauty of this system is that the occasional pass on the 4k prevents it.
I've only overhoned a few times myself, it's not the end of the world. I slice a sheet of paper in two to remove the burr, then a few 8k passes fixes things right up.

Feather AC
AOS starter Badger Brush
drop of AOS preshave, C&E Sandalwood cream, ClassicShaving Sandalwood soap (I like to Frankenstein it)
Splash of Clubman
30-45 seconds of cursing
AOS sandalwood aftershave balm
Im starting to get the hang of the feather, although my neck still hates me up to this point:p
Last night I just gave my face a light run with the electric to bring the stubble down to size for a delicate blade.
Today I shaved with the Feather AC again, and got a clean and less sharp shave. However I don't see myself straying from the straight path as long as I've got one functioning arm (hand included).
Hot shower.
Pre shave using warm water and a cake of glycerine soap.

Mixture of witch hazel and Clubman as an ideal aftershave.
What most impresses me these days is how I can take almost any salvageable razor and put a new keen edge on it. Takes an hour sometimes, 5 hours other times.

Taylor's avocado cream (new formulation)
7/8 W&B "Barber's Rattler"
Harris face milk
Good shave, but I'm feeling vaguely disappointed by the creams I've been using the last few days. Every now and then I haul them out again hoping that I'll discover the magic technique that makes creams so favored by so many others, but I just can't find it. The creams definitely smell nice, but I think I just prefer soap lather for shaving and that's all there is to it; the only lathers that seems to shave as well as a soap for me are the el-cheapo Palmolive and the brushless cremo-cream.

i can't say enough good things about QED glycerin soaps. lather simply explodes, shaves extremely close, provides moisture. best soap i own at the moment. i am starting to dislike my larger razors. i find that 7/8 and above are a bit too big and i don't enjoy them. 5/8's are great, 6/8th are my favorite. overall shave was about an 8, no cuts, very close feeling. love the Thayers after my cold splash!!!
Today's shave is no shave at all! Yesteday's was that good. :)

Shaved late yesterday and didn't have 24 hours of growth but still got a pretty nice shave. I've been trying a number of different sample soaps lately and always enjoy coming back to this one. It even feels soothing on the skin when relathering between passes, and smells good enough to eat.
Wed:
Rooney brush
Gold-Dachs Spezial soap
7/8 Heljestrand
Gave up fiddling with the creams, they smell nice but I just don't get as good a shave out of them.
I gave the helje a quick touch-up on the translucent, and along with the return to soap I had a great shave.

Tabac soap.
6/8 Wacker quarter-ground spike point.

Proraso a/s splash.
This was my second shave with the Wacker quarter hollow, I think maybe I rolled the edge before but since then I put it through quite a few aggressive pyramids and then ended up on a pasted paddle. It shaves beautifuly now and is wicked sharp, definately one of my favourites to use. :)

being that I bought it for $8.00 at a junk store.

Vintage swedish frameback arrived yesterday. I expected a dog. When I got it I liked it so much I was inspired to clean it and hone it, so that I can shave right away. And I did!
Hot shower
Tony Miller 3'' strop
Rooney Super med
Lucky Tiger shave lotion (~cream, getting lazy for soaps lately)
aforementioned heavy 13/16 swedish frameback cleaned and honed by me
also stropped the 8/8 Fili (one of my very best - as backup, after the last lesson)
Trumper's alum block
ice cube
L'O CADE AS balm
I got some red patches the last time I tried a (wedge) razor honed by me but just couldn't wait to test the swedish frameback. When I got it it was dull. ONE conservative pyramid got it to shave hairs off my hand and pass HHTs along the whole blade (including the toe smile) HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS???
Shave itself: Zero nicks / cuts. Razor has perfect balance. Sharp, but not where Joe gets them. Still, being careful not to irritate the neck, which was not totally recovered from previous shave, I got a 9 out of 10 shave.
Now, a shave rating of 9 is not enough to get it into my very best circle, but I have high hopes - with just some more Norton love I believe it can get to the required 9+ or above. Only gripe - tail is a bit short, I prefer them a tad longer.
I went for the alum and felt no sting at all - meaning the blade was sharp enough and technique was ok. Mild redness on neck - combined from previous shave, stretching, and alum. Said redness was gone soon and now there's just great looking skin.
Cheers
Ivo

Absolutely blissful shave, BBS but not one of those 18hr BBS shaves. I was just in a major groove the entire shave. I am in deep, deep love with this razor.

Crown Razor 6/8th roundpoint - fantastic razor btw

very good stuff. this razor has become a staple in my rotation. i really enjoy 6/8th size, definitely my favorite size. and this razor takes an incredible edge. recommend one of these to anyone.
After about a week of Feather-torture I finally went back to my my razors and surprise surprise, it was Taylor's :y Nice clean and comfortable shave :D
Was the feather really that bad, or are you just hyperbolating?
