Today I shaved with the Filly #12, finished on the chromium oxide 0.5mic pasted home-made bench hone. The shave was AMAZING. As clean as an AC shave without the harsh feeling on the skin. Tomorrow I'll try out the Tonsorial (one of the better pieces in my rotation) recently finished on the 0.5 but not-shave tested, to determine whether the abrasive made all the difference or the Filly steel is super to anything else out there on the market.
Once I got my first CO paddle I quickly gave up on the AC. It may be sharper but CO really puts a special edge on the razor. 0.5 micron diamond puts a similar edge on the razor, but it's a harsher feeling edge, and I don't think it's *quite* as sharp as the CO either.
The Heljestrand I shaved with this morning got two laps on the CO just before the shave, and it just wiped the whiskers off, even the tough ones on my chin.
I felt some resistance in the heavily stubbled area (more than with the AC less than after N8K) but obviously no tugging. It was just a dream, especially for the chin area :D

I am thinking we may spice things up a bit with collecting guesses on the tools and accessories used... Tonight I'll disclose the price I paid for the Mystery Razor - $60, and the grind - a tad thicker than a full hollow. You send in the guesses, if you care, that is ;)

Had at least 5 razors I had never tried, and several I had tried and then touched up... Notably, W&B 8/8 Barber's Use, 13/16 Engstrom frameback and 7/8 Smith & Hawksley wedge touch-ups, never-tried 5/8 Wonderedge, 6/8 Joesph Rodgers wedge, etc.
Mystery Razor did not disappoint, wiping the growth easily with a 9+ shave, and placed straight at the top of my rotation. 2 miniscule nicks, no red spots even after the alum block despite the fact that my skin can be a bit sensitive to Tabac sometimes.
Cheers
Ivo

Garantie Solingen 6/8 Straight (scales by Robert Williams), Simpson The Duke 2 badger brush. Missing...the shaving cream. I received my SCS package today and had to decide between Minted Chocolate and Shea Butter with Avocado Oil shaving creams. Finally, I flipped a coin...Shea Butter is the winner!

I've been mostly shaving with straights for the past week, with reasonably good results - virtually no nicks or cuts - until this morning!
A momentary lapse in concentration and the next thing I knew I had a 1.5" slice in my cheek. I realized what happened immediately - no pain (that came with the alum and A/S!), but just felt the razor cut into my cheek - I actually had a rivulet of blood running down my cheek.
After all was said and done, its not too bad and should be healed up in a couple of days - certainly a strong incentive to pay more attention when using a straight!
On the upside, I've honed the Boker myself and am quite pleased to be shaving with a blade I've put into shaving condition - its not 100% there yet, but a few more trips on the pasted paddle I got from Tony should get me the rest of the way there.
Nice going on the honing part.
I still cringe when I read about a cut  And this one sounds like a big / long one.
It seems that even experienced members can get a cut when not paying attention. If razors don't get the respect they deserve - bad things happen
Better luck next time
Ivo

And a cut to my nose that bled like a bastard. Plus a pulling razor. Plus a shedding brush that resulted in big, long hairs on my razor's edge every now and again.
All in all, the perfect storm of crappy shaves. Hence the stopping after 2 passes with an indifferent shave.
The Tonsorial gave me great results that were a noticeable improvement over how it shaved straight off the 8k. With that being said, it was no better than the Filly, which means there's another candidate to enter my top 3.
Mine today was awesome. No high end products at all but simply amazing!! Today I got to use my 6/8 worldmaster sheffield again. I just got it back from Bill on monday. He'd been kind enough to use Vlad's scale kit and put it on my worldmaster. Out of the enveloppe it looked amazing...it shaved just like it looked. I didn't know the cocobolo would turn out that nice. (I'm sorry ai didn't do it myself Vlad...I simply chickened out) But all polished and buffed up and even without finish it looks simply amazing!!!!
Anyway:
shower
Lush's Coalface facial scrub (use it everyday twice a day and my face has never been feeling this nice.)
50/50 boar badger brush from Kent
Czech peppermint shave cream..I forget the name..it's something like Don Quichotte or similar.
My awesome reloaded 6/8 Sheffield Steel Worldmaster with cocobolo scales.
Peppermint Bay rum. (Made by Axel and added peppermint by me)
It was wonderfull. The Worldmaster was dead on par with my 7/8 TI Sheffield. The cream was amazing and cooling (who'dve known for only $1,50) and the bay rum burned at first and then settled into peppermint coolness. Now the peppermint has faded and the bay rum can still be sampled.
Formula to happiness that was.

Week two of my straight shaving odessy - I'm not finding that it takes much longer than using a DE. My stropping seems to be getting better, but I think I'm going to be one of those guys who touches up his razors on a pasted paddle after 5-10 shaves, depending on the razor.
I'm still having to do some touch up with the DE - primarily around the chin and neck. I'm pretty comfortable on the N-S pass, getting better on the S-N pass, but won't be able to get a good shave unless I add an E-W or W-E pass (just the way my hair grows).
I'm going to take some time over the weekend to practice the tougher areas when I have more time.

Nice shave - getting the hang of things - still some issues around the chin and spots on the neck, but practice will make perfect!
After taking the TEW to the chromium oxide, I reached a new level of AMAZING. The only issues I had with this shave were a painful zit I had as a secondary symptom of the food poisoning from 2 days ago and a left-handed slipup that created a bit of a burn but no nicks, during the third pass which was quite unnecessary as the first pass gave me a serviceable shave and the second pass was very close.

First time out with this razor, just finished cleaning/polishing, replacing the scales, and honing it last night. I wanted a particularly good shave for turkey day and was not disappointed.

It was very good. This little 5/8 that I got from ToxIk has yet to let me down. Also the Arizona Goat Milk Soap Company has improved their shaving soap and when I ordered a bunch of soaps from them they gave me the shaving soap for free to see if it had really improved. And it has. The lather get thicker now, (big fluffy lather cloads) and stays longer on the face withouth being absorbed by the skin. If you haven't tried this stuff before you should now. I really love it. More so even than I did before they improved it.

I've ordered up some soaps and a/s balm from TAGMSC after your comments LX. I will post results after I have given them a shot. Time to hide the wallet again...
You'll love the aftershave. I't my favorite hands down.
As for the normal soaps they're also great.
The shaving soap is one that I really like but some other people weren't big fans.
At least it's not like spending money on the 3T's the prices are a lot nicer.
