Have a good day !
This morning's shave:
Razor: Dovo 1/2 Hollow 5/8
Strop: steer hide 3" about 25 laps.
Brush: Crowley & Tosh silvertip
Pre-shave: Hot shower, Hot towel
Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery G20
Face lather: Acqua di Parma
Alum block
After shave Balm: Acqua di Parma
Result: two passes, WTG & ATG, about as good as my old average cartridge shave.
The real improvement with this shave was the time it took -- I've cut way down. I'm moving with more confidence, and pressing a little harder on the WTG passes. This leads to an easier ATG pass.
Cheers,
Jack
Lot's of "It's been a while"s today. I haven't posted a SOTD, used a cream instead of a soap, used a big floppy brush, or used a ASB in a long time. It was a great shave :)

What a glorious day! Some days everything comes together and brings joy. The sun is bright and the fall colors are fantastic. The old razor, a mass of pits when I found it is now only cleaned and takes a wondrous edge. That old chunk of rock is a DRY finisher that I cannot best, again it was found along with some dud razors of the early 20th century. The old strop, as supple as the day it was sold, was 'nother great find.
To top it all off; the chuckle as the splash came from the bottle was an added gift to lift my spirits!

I haven't shaved since last Sunday, and having just come home from holiday I didn't want to whip out the 'Wheatfield', so 'Mama Chub' and the Marlborough laid down the base for a super smooth, super clean shave with the Weber. Damn I feel great ;-)
No shave today. This is day 1 of the move weekend.

A beautiful shave and the very first ever for this vintage Hishakaku NOS folding Kamisori, I honed her a few days previously after watching a few of Glen's video's on Kamisori razor honing, to be honest it couldn't have been simpler.

OFF
On Hungary is a legend, that, when 1849. october 6. executed the 13 martyrs of Arad (they was 13 hungarian general), the Austrian generals toasted with beer. Therefore, the Hungarian people do not clink beer. According to historians, although it is not a true legend. But I think the "Egri Bikavér" very fine wine! ;)

Busy day ahead of me today so a quick two pass for me.
Sat, Sept 29
Pre: Hot Shower, 10 Linen, 15 Leather
Razor: Dubl Duck Special No 1
Brush: Thiers-Issard Super Badger w/ Black Horn Handle
Scuttle: Dirty Bird Brush Scuttle
Soap: SRD Patchouli
Post: Cold water and Alum
Aftershave: Proraso White
Today is a slow day so I thought I might try another of the SRD samples. I found out how I am going to use them now. With the first sample which was Opus X I had trouble lathering. The sliver wouldn't stay in place and it was a hoot lathering the sliver from the palm of my hand. I found that the soap was just soft enough that I could mash it down into the black resin shaving bowl I reserved for sample day. It kinda chunked down and then stuck into place across the entire bottom of the bowl.
Onto the shave. Today starts a new chapter in facial hair. For Halloween I want to have a glorious muttonchop-mustache combo so I growing my beard in so that I can shave the chin at Halloween. So today's shave and many more in the future will be neck only. I found it a challenge to edge the jawline of the beard but that will come with time. The Patchouli scent does not agree with me. I don't know what it is but I just plain don't like it. It lathered great. So now its onto finding the scents I like. The duck as usual made quick work of my beard. It did nip me as if to say play with me more often. I guess it was getting lonely watching me shave with my Mappin.
Happy Shaving!
Thanks for a week of great shaves and photos! :bow
SATURDAY...Another beautiful day!
Hot shower prep
Razor: Case "Red Imp"
Soap: NOS puck of Colgate Cup Soap <1970
Mug: Yup I were one about them times
Brush: NOS HESS #2
Aftershock: Styptic Pencil...unneeded
Splash: NOS Mennen "SKIN BRACER"
I can readily understand why some folks find the old Colgate and Williams soaps to be superior. The puck was so old that I had to keep adding water to the lather. The result? Well another great shave in two and a touch up. The old Case was one of those very few I did not need to do any more than clean and hone. They do take a great edge when loved! These things are meant to be used and enjoyed.
http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/...sotd9-29-1.jpg
I like the ability to enjoy a shave and try to place myself in the life and times of the stuff I am enjoying. My goodies? are a source of history and were acquired cheaply while on safari in the hinterlands of WI and MN. There are still many of the millions of razors manufactured still to be located. I had a Forum mate that went to a shop a week after I had been there and grab a new Escher for about $15. Do not give up!
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

Hi Fellas,
It's been a while since I've posted; I've been too distressed caring for my twelve-year-old black lab for the last month. I had to put her to sleep yesterday afternoon. She often kept me company while shaving in the morning, and I have no heart to shave today.
Please forgive my sharing this with you all. I didn't realize until now how much I've treasured my association with you folks.
Sincerely,
Jeff
Sorry to hear this sad news but 12 years for a lab is really great. I'm sure you did whatever was necessary so she wouldn't suffer. Either way, they are family and losing a dog is like losing a family member. Lots of positive vibes coming my way during those coming weeks. Max
