Notes: Good clean shave, easy 2-pass and a touch for the jaw. Slight sting but very close.
Shaved with the 2nd of the pair of Aubril's I'd picked up. This one seems to be fractionally thicker and took more of a bevel than the first. Lovely razors.
Jermyn Street behaved itself today. Loves water as it dries quickly.
Gentlemen, today's shave was magical, when everything worked, the razor, the brush, the soap, the music, the coffee and . . .
Razor: Focus 6/8 hollow square point with a glorious edge
Strop: Bison 2.5"
Brush: Saville Row 3824 in 24 mm silvertip — a delicious brush
Soap: Klar
Pre-shave: Castle Forbes
Scuttle: Moss
Music: A string of Vivaldi violin concertos
Face lather
Alum
Witch hazel
Balm: Pierre Cardin
Aftershave: Musgo Real Classic
"So, anyway, I say, you can force a patina, you can make it look older than it is. Oh. Wow, he says, Like in that show American Pawn where that dude brought in that shotty [shotgun] and it wasn’t really old but he said it was and made it look like it was? Yeah, I say, like that. So, I say, vinegar, you can do it with vinegar".
Carl, when I read your post I remembered reading an interview with a flintlock rifle maker. He made his own browning formula using...urine. Apparently in the old days they would apply or soak metals in a urine bath until rust started to form. Then they would sand the metal and apply oil to stop the rusting process, I seem to remember. This was pretty common. Hawkeye even waxes poetic on the superiority of browning over blueing in Last of the Mohicans.
Anyway, I get a kick out your stories in SOTD posts. Do you have a background in Literature?
