Thread: Feather DE blades and thcknesses

Hey all,

So, thanks to digging up a thread on which JimmyHAD posted this helpful link in a thread about SE blades Dissection Tools, Scissors, Blades, Forceps, Scalpels, Spatulas , I notice that they also now carry Feather DE blades.

So which ones are the "right" ones? The smallest thickness??

The Feathers fall into different AISI categories. Anyone offer some insight about the AISI standard and the dynamics of shaving with a D/E?

Yeah. That's what I'm saying, just starting to look at them. I know there are carbon steel straight razors, obviously made of carbon. So, would that be a neutral factor or what?

I was trying to draw out what difference the thickness made in terms of sharpness feeling and whether either of these two listed on the site could be used with a DE.

IME, and it may differ from that of others, in DE blades the stainless coated/treated blades are worlds sharper/smoother than their carbon counterparts. One of the happiest days of my young life was when Gillette began selling Platinum Plus, or maybe it was Super Stainless, I don't recall which came first. Being able to give up shaving with the Gillette blue blades, and go to the then newly developed blades, was nirvana. The DE blades that guys rave about, that are labeled Feather, are the 'New Hi Stainless' in that link. If you intend to dissect frogs, or whatever, try the carbons on the Pella site ....
