    Default Found my combo!

I started with an EJ89 and tried numerous blades: GSB, Astra, Personna Reds, Derby, Feather, Kai, Gillette 7 O Clock yellows and the 7 O Clock Yellows were the best in that razor, but only seemed to last for 2 good shaves. Feather, KAI, GSB and Derby were incredibly painful, Astras were good and the others were sort of a "meh" shave. OK, but not all that great. Got a Parker TTO 27R and a Parker 24C Open Comb. Parker TTO 27R worked OK with some blades, but felt the same shave wise as my EJ89. Then I went to the 24C. What a difference! Tried Crystol blades, meh, Gillette 7 O Clock Greens were pretty good. Shark's were awesome and the Lord blades I got were horrible. Put in a Gillette 7 O Clock Yellow...ahhhhh. 5 great shaves with it and it doesn't seem to be losing it's edge yet! Barely any weepers, and even the bumps on my face that usually get teeny cuts on them weren't even bothered! Feels so smooth when cutting, no irritation either.

Gonna order up some Sharks and Gillette yellows in bulk after I try the Astra's in the Parker 24C, but those are the top 2 blades so far. Such a nice thing to find the razor/blade combo that works well with your face!!

Yep. That's what's so cool about this internet ,, for 40+ years I shaved with a Gillette fat boy and wilkinson blades!! didn't know any better !but doing it that long I got great shaves , then a few years ago along came this information on the web! I started trying different blades ,, now I know what a truly great DE shave is. Although my blade of choice is the Feather, and I change every shave just because I can and fresh blades perform exactly the same every time with my razor set on the 7 setting. Tc

    Gentlemen,

After many years of shaving with the double edge razor, even though I shave mostly with the straight razor, I have settled on what I consider the perfect blades for me: Super Iridium (Polsilver Iridium), PermaSharp Super, Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (yellows), Feather and Personna Reds. And I, too, prefer a new blade for each shave.

LOL! Were I to only have access to a DE and Wilkinson blades... I would be sporting a beard lol! Maybe that's because I knew I had options - I don't know. All I remember is those blades felt like they were ripping my face apart.

As for changing the blade every shave - I dig it - but I think you might be missing out on something. I find the Feather blades give me their best shaves on the third go. But then I haven't the coarsest beard in the world!

Either way, it's whatever works. I am a fan of the Feathers and Personna Reds. The Feather seems sharper, but the little bit of edge I give up sporting a Personna Red is made up in smooth .

I hear ya. But I have used the feathers as many as 5 times lots of trial an error over 40+ years on a DE. I just get the best shave off the first one their not harsh on my face. What is it they say ? YMMV. Mostly I,m on a straight now but the DE vcomes out every now and then. , just not much since I got the Feather RG for travel. Tc

Yeah, tried Feathers and others and my face felt beat up. Tried PolSilvers, they were smooth for the first shave, but didn't seem to cut as closely as the Gillette yellows. I think I have some Wilkinsons left to try? Then I can buy in bulk for a bit so I have a fall back when trying to learn the SR shaving down the road.

Personna Med Preps merit consideration. Use them with an EJ 89 and a Weber.

I tried Personna Reds in my EJ89, did OK, but the Shark and Gillette 7 O Clock Sharp Edge did much better for me.

This is also my plan got a bulk pack of Astra SPs coming, along with my first straight (should be here today, hopefully...). So that when my face cries out "no more!", I can give it a bit of a break while the trenches heal up, lol.

Been using the Gillette 7 O'clock yellows and the Shark Super Stainless, the Gillette gives a closer/smoother shave, but the Sharks don't seem to irritate my face as much, but aren't quite as close. Gonna order both of these in bulk soon! Astra's were meh in the Parker, weren't all that great. Gotta try the Personna reds again, too in the Parker.
