Default Rollo single edge "presafety" razors

Has anyone ever heard of and/or had any experience with the "Rollo" single edge shaving system? They appear to bridge the gap between the straight edge razor and the replaceable single edge safety razors. One hones and strops the single edge of this single thick blade which appears would last a lifetime. The Rollo I saw seems to be of high quality components and came in its own chrome metal box. Even the box is quite well made and is far better than just a "cookie tin" design. It appears to be made of much heavier gauge metal with a great deal of attention to detail. The kit is self contained and is complete with a honing stone inside one cover and the finishing rubber strop inside the other. It is all packaged in this neat metal box as a complete system making it easy to grab and travel etc...

Again, does anyone have any information about these? Wikpedia has no article yet and SRP search engine comes up dry. I am curious if these were a marketing failure or design flawed and quickly bypassed in the evolution of the safety razor.

    Thanks a bunch.

Are you sure you don't mean the "Rolls Razor"? It's a self stropping wedge-bladed safety razor, much like what you're describing. Not really all that rare. I'd like to get hold of one some day...

Try looking up "Rolls Razor". You should find lots of links to that razor. I hope to be able to hone mine to shave-ready sometime in the future.

I think you're talking about the "Rolls Razor", which was a really cool little gadget. I inherited one from my paternal grandfather, but have never really gotten a decent shave from one.

I'm sure someone on this board has had some better experience with one.

Thanks for the info' men. You were right, I had the name wrong....added the extra "O" which blew the searches.
I have become so fascinated by this whole new-old way of shaving that I went out and bought "minty" a Rolls from a local antique dealer today. I took it home and immediately went to work honing and stropping the blade. I had myself a very successful shave.
I am a real sucker for old timey things especially when they are of obvious quality.
In the last week I started my SRP membership, bought 4 vintage straight razors, a new 4k/8k hone and strop and went through the initial learning process of shaving with a straight razor. After enjoying that process thoroughly, I couldn't pass up the Rolls.
    This could be fun.

I love my Rolls, it's in my regular rotation. I'm primarily a straight shaver now, so my rotation always goes back to a straight. Like this example:

    Week 1 - Straight
    Week 2 - GEM SE
    Week 3 - Straight
    Week 4 - '07 Single Ring
    Week 5 - Straight
    Week 6 - Rolls
    etc
    etc

I have this Rollo Razor Sharpening setup as you described., in my stuff , Good shape and complete . I supose it needs a seperate Shaving handle to be a usable set. I don't know anything extra about it. --- Proost
