    Default Gillette Slim help

I bought a slim at an antique store yesterday. Cleaned her up and used it this am. Can someone shed some light on the adj. I thought 1 is for less agressive and so on. When i turned the dial i notice it increases the angle of the blade. Also the gap increases. How does that affect the shave angle to you face. Previously i used a WEISHI TTO, Mild but a nice shave. Is it possable to get a first pass close shave with a DE? From what i have read even the Straight razors require 2-3 passes.

    Thanks

The gillete slim is a wonderful shaver and very aggressive.

As you guessed the 1 is most mild while 9 is most aggressive I recommend you start no higher than 3 till you get used to it.

the adjustment doesn't change the angle so much as it changes the blades exposure. You'll notice that as you turn the dial more and more of the blade becomes visible on the the safety bar. This results in a closer shave but at the same time is easier to cut yourself.

No matter what razor you are using cartridge,str8t,DE,SE you should shave in passes. How many you require depends mostly on your beard's thickness. Some people only need to shave once every few days some every day. I will say that I have a fast growing beard and a 3 pass shave with a slim usually lasts me about 12 hours

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks! WOW! 12 hours! Thats fast. I turned it down to 4. Seems better. If you increase the number does the angle of the shave stay the same?

Unlike a str8t where you are in control of the blade angle most safety razors keep the blade in one spot.

You can change the angle of the blade by rocking the "head" of the razor up or down until you find the angle that is most comftorable for you.

However the adjustment knob is just to reveal more or less of the blade making the shave more or less aggressive.

When I first started wetshaving my whiskers would stay gone for almost a day and a half! I think they were in shock of the awesomeness of the new razor I was using. Now that I have been wetshaving for a couple months with str8ts DE and SE 12 hours is about the average time it takes for the faintest sign of stubble to appear.

I have a very fast growing beard I will have stubble 2 hours after shaving with an electric and 5-6 with a cartridge. I am so glad I found wetshaving probably would of grown a beard if I didn't.
