Default PILS, A New High End German DE .... Anyone try it yet ?

In another thread our own BeBerlin mentioned the new PILS safety razor which can be seen here . I am intrigued but it sure is a hefty price tag. Anyone tried this lovely piece of machinery ? At that price point the workmanship would have to be far superior to Merkurs if I was to be satisfied. Now if they would only make a slant version. The vendor also carries quite a selection of straight razors.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Let's not. Pilsner was invented in the city of Pilsen in Bohemia (today, Czech Republic). Many beers are brewed according to "Pilsner Brauart", ie you can have a US lager and call it Pils.

That is a big chunk of change for a safety razor. A friend sent me some pictures of one of these awhile back, they look very stout and utilitarian.
I really wanted to try one of these, but after seeing the price-tag my want for it has diminished.

I had a Pils brush when I first got into the hobby, it was sold as a High Mountain White, (and seems to be more high-end than the brushes they currently offer), and had a price tag to match. Ultimately, it was massively overpriced for what it was, and whilst there was nothing to complain about functionally or structurally, I got the distinct impression that I was paying more for the name than the actual product. Given the cost of the DE, I think it would fall into the same category as their brushes.

    Kindest regards,
    Alex

Interesting. In terms of styling, they remind me of the pictures I've seen of the coveted Wilkinson "Sticky". Maybe this was an intentional hat tip, seeing the price?

the photos don't show much detail.. the price is ridiculous. doesnt look like the 'head' places much curvature on the blade, it all looks very flat. handle looks slippery.

    google translate is kinda funky.

"The body of the planer head is freely pivoted, so that the ever PILS razor blade that's perfect position for the place. This will be achieved if were covered by special rotating brass parts, especially from thick coating Genuine gold and nickel."

a pivoting head DE? thats new... plated in gold.. ok I understand the price now...

I just picked up two of these (no really) I'm not one to bump old threads and I know I'm a new user but i thought i would answer questions.

I believe this razor is machined stainless it is a very hefty razor. I don't have a scale but it is roughly the same weight as my Merkur Vision. Possible even a little heavier? It is the most solid feeling razor I own.

    The razor does not pivot.

The blade does indeed have a minor curve to it making for a shallow angle of attack

"workmanship would have to be far superior to Merkurs "

In a word... Yes, and it is. Speaking from someone who has had to repair a Vision (even though i do love it) The vision and the futur do not have the solid feel that this Pils has.

    In my collection i have

    Vision
    Futur
    Progress
    Goodfella
    Older Gillette SS

This razor has quickly become my go to razor though it can get a little heavy at times.

If you like i will take pictures of my razors next to others for comparison
