Default What Blades Should I get???

I just recently recieved a Vintage Adjustable Gilette DE razor as a gift from my brother. Its a very nice piece. I have shaved with it and had some very pleasing results. But I only have a few vintage blades that I had. What are some good brands of blades I can purchase and where can I find them. Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks Tony

I like the Gillette blades. Not pricey, smooth edges and they are good for about 5 shaves before they need to be changed.

Get a pack of everything. You'll never know what blade you'll like the most till you try it!

This may sound crazy, but I have tried about 5 or 6 different blades so far in my DE experience and I have actually liked all of them. In fact, I have been unable to distinguish between which ones I like and which ones I don't because it is hard for me to tell the difference between different blades.

I think your best bet would be to order a sampler pack from West Coast Shaving and try out a few different ones.

If ever there was a YMMV situation this is it. Some find certain blades work best with certain razors and some find everything works well. Personally I get good results with all but a few I've tried. I've liked the Mercurs, the Feathers,Gillette Swedes and Israeli's, Wilkinson's. Buy a sampler pack and see how it goes.

    Default What Blades . . . ?

    Hello, Brando:

I must agree with my friend thebigspendur: start with a sampler pack. Double edge razor blades are personal. I have tried a large number of blades through the years and finally settled on Feather the the Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge (yellow packs) — for now.

Bull Goose and West Coast Shaving, among others, offer sampler packs. Give them a try. They are good people, too.

    Regards,
    Obie

As stated above sampler packs are the way to go. A blade that may work for me may not work for you it is all about personal preference.

Fendrihan, Classic Wet Shaving Store has some good sampler packs

I have yet to find a blade that still shaves comfortably at 5 shaves. I have attempted it with a few different brands and while you can eck out a shave it ain't pretty. Due to different beard and skin types it is near impossible to say how long a blade should last.

I like Wilkinson sword blades. I've used them since about 1979. I tried a huge sample pack, but I still like Wilkinson sword the best.
