Default First DE shave, from a straight shaver.

Just got my Edwin Jagger in the mail and put it to use last night. Wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Since shaving with a straight I applied most of that logic to the DE. Didnt get any nicks or burning. The shave was great, very enjoyable. I think I will use this as my daily shaver for a while till I really get down the straight. I love finding better ways to shave.

    Default First DE Shave . . .

    Hello, Brian:

You have made a good choice with the Edwin Jagger. You also seem to do well with your shave. I agree, many of the techniques used for the straight razor also can be used, with certain modifications, for the double edge. Well done, sir.

    Regards,
    Obie

I originally used a DE before I went to a straight but I still use the DE on a regular basis and like you have found the straight techniques work to give me a great comfortable shave with a DE.

You will really enjoy that EJ by the way. It's a quality piece.

EJ makes nice razors. Of all the modern razor companies they are my favorite, though I still prefer vintage Gillettes.

You, sir, have discovered the path to great DE shaves. With that mindset you should get many great, blood-free shaves. Congrats!

Had the second shave tonight, it pretty much rocked. I love the DE. It is like the underrated new kid on the block. I think any one would be remiss if they didn't give the DE a shot. I only had a small nick where I tried to get frisky with my chin. Other than that I had a great time for a second time.

    Brian,

That's great to hear; and the Edwin Jagger de is an excellent choice.

Many straight razor shavers have similar results from using a de. In fact, that is how I migrated to straight razor shaving, by beginning to shave with a de razor. The shaving technique is similar to that of using a straight razor.

I also use a double edge system (Merkur 23c) when I am in a harry or in travel.
However, the straight razor gives me a deeper shave that the DE.
