So I bought a 1961 Gillette slim today from a local antique store no case but the razor is in excellent condition, anyone wanna hazard a guess as to what I should have paid for it? I'll leave the actual purchase price out so I don't influence any one estimates and so I don't embarrass myself prematurely.
Any ways I'm off to give it a test shave.

Essentially you are asking for an appraisal and we don't do them on SRP. If you check out ebay listings for completed items for similar razors in the same condition you'll have an idea of what the market for those are this week. Enjoy your shave.
Well first of all I am not aware of any Slims produced in 1961. Production did not start until 1962. Whats the date code. G + #?Quote:

the date code is G4 which would make it the 4th quarter of 1961. But out of respect for the mods I would like to put and end to this thread. For anyone who was wondering I paid $15 for the razor and based on my ebay research I figured it's worth between $35-50

I've shaved with it twice and it seems to be a very good shaver, thought it does seem quite docile compared to my merkur 33c even at setting 7-8 and 9 just seems like too much I've got derby (Green) blades in it right now and I'm thinking about picking up something a little more aggressive to try out maybe feather? any suggestions? What do you find work best in you slim?Quote:

Yep, 1961 was a transition period year. The end of the first adjustable with the fatter handle aka Fatboy and also the introduction of the slimmer handeled adjustable. Nice razor to have.
Yes I'm really enjoying it. It's been getting alot of use seeing as my straight had to be sent out for a repair (damn faucet:banghead:).
