Someone wanna tell me if I got ripped off?
So I bought a 1961 Gillette slim today from a local antique store no case but the razor is in excellent condition, anyone wanna hazard a guess as to what I should have paid for it? I'll leave the actual purchase price out so I don't influence any one estimates and so I don't embarrass myself prematurely.
Any ways I'm off to give it a test shave.
Cheers

Essentially you are asking for an appraisal and we don't do them on SRP. If you check out ebay listings for completed items for similar razors in the same condition you'll have an idea of what the market for those are this week. Enjoy your shave.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Omad,
If you can post a picture of it, and/or provide a date code one of us can help identify it for you, and give an honest opinion of what one of us might think it is worth.

Thanked: 9Honestly? If you are happy with the purchase, then that's what matters.
As an aside, I have a 1966 Slim, and think it's quite nice.

the date code is G4 which would make it the 4th quarter of 1961. But out of respect for the mods I would like to put and end to this thread. For anyone who was wondering I paid $15 for the razor and based on my ebay research I figured it's worth between $35-50

+1 to that. I've shaved with it twice and it seems to be a very good shaver, thought it does seem quite docile compared to my merkur 33c even at setting 7-8 and 9 just seems like too much I've got derby (Green) blades in it right now and I'm thinking about picking up something a little more aggressive to try out maybe feather? any suggestions? What do you find work best in you slim?

I'd say try out some Astra or Gilette 7 O'clock blades before jumping to the feather. From what I hear, Feather is the sharpest you can get, and something you should work up to, not necessarily jump to.
