It's a bit more expensive than similar safety razors but I've tried a few other Muhle products and was very pleased, which is why I'm thinking about spending a bit more for the good looking R89. Anyone have experience with it?

I should be able to tell you in a couple of days... I just bought one off of somebody here on the forum, and it should be arriving tomorrow.
I can tell you from the pictures that it looks damn sexy :D
The R89 is a well regarded DE, Muhle makes top notch stuff. I have the R41, a very aggressive model, yet a fantastic shaver used right.
eflatminor,
The Muhle heads are excellent; I have a Muhle R109 & R41 and they are very, very nice DE razors :)
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
I used to have a Mühle R89 and it was one the best razors I’ve had so far. Just got the old R41 (open comb) and am thinking of getting myself the R89 again as well, once the Pils is gone…
Hello, eflatminor,
The Muhle R89 is a superb razor. The workmanship and the shave will please you.
Thanks guys, I think I will pull the trigger on one. Will post pics.
I just finished my second shave with the Mühle R89 today, and so far it has been much, much smoother than my Merkur 23C. I have yet to get nicked by the R89 using the same shaving methods/techniques. The handle is pretty smooth, but it still provides adequate grip. The head is more aggressive than the 23C (at least it shaves closer), yet it is much smoother in shaving. Whether that's due to the "legendary" smooth finishing of the chrome - I don't know, but over all, I am very satisfied with the R89.
I'm using Astra blades, by the way.
I am also curious about this DE razor. I currently own a Merkur 34C, which was the most popular razor on the boards at one time. The 34C is a nice quality razor, but I do not like that I have to fiddle around with the blade in order to have even blade exposure on both sides of the razor's head. How well do blades set in Muhle R89? For those that use the R89, do you find that you have to fiddle with blade to get optimal blade exposure on both sides of the razor's head? Thanks in advnace for any help.
Interesting observations..., I find that the blades in my Merkur Progress feel like they are a bit "off" ...that is it is more aggressive on one side of the razor, never thought to check if they needed to be "fiddled" with
Of course that R89 is one sexah lookin beast! :) May have to grab one for my bathroom (found online for 55, not too bad)
I'd just like to chime in and say the R89 is supurb. I got mine from a very nice fellow here, with a bunch of blades. The workmanship on this razor is excellent, and it feels really good in the hand, the weight of the head does ALL the work. So far, my favorite blades are Astra.
I'm expecting my new R89 to arrive in the post today with a variety pack of blades. Will report back! With pics!
Loving the R89!

Nice set up. I like the bowl, shelf...well, actually I like it all...
I just got it. It is identical head to my Edwin Jagger which is considered one of the smoothest shavers out there. It performs the same with the only difference being it has a slightly nicer handle but at double the price. And actually the handle may not really be any 'better' it is just different.
Thanks! I picked up the blue and green bowl from a Chicago potter artist years ago. Made a perfect lather bowl. The brown one in the middle is just to support my brush while it soaks. The traditional soap mug is from Muhle. Now, that "bowl" on the far back right is something different. It's carved from a bull's horn. It's nice for a quick lather with cream, fits nicely in the palm of your hand and when it's wet, it has a natural kind of stickiness against the skin.
