Thread: Flying with a DE

So I had a flight from ATL GA to baltimore MD. I new enuff not to bring a str8 for the flight or my gun, or any knives . I didn't want to check my bag. So I decided I would be safe with my DE with no blade in it and 2 blades in the Paper. As soon as my bag went throught the scanner they grabbed it and sent it throught again. Then they called me over they opened my toiletry bag and when right for the DE. I said there is no blade in it. He checked then he grabbed the blades I said try are very flexible he check to see how flexible they where and said sorry I can't let you fly with them. The good thing is I have my DE so as soon as I landed I suched the map app on my phone for sthraight razor surplise and fond. A cool shop that I will go to in the am. So how do you travel with a razor?

The best thing to do is pack your DE and blades in your checked luggage. I have done this many times when travelling, even out of country, and have never had a problem.

Another option is to ship your razor to your destination via UPS. Have the return label in the box and ship it home when you come back.

I've flown six times so far with my DE razor. I place it in a zipper pocket at the top of the backpack I use for my carry on. I place it there so the TSA officer will have easy access for inspection. To my surprise, they let it go through each time. I put my blades in my checked luggage.

Were I to travel with only carry on luggage, I would put a pack of Feathers in a padded envelope and mail them to the hotel several days before my travel date with the notation under the address: "Hold for <My Name>, guest."

Of course, in a pinch, both Walmart and Kmart carry DE blades that are adequate. YMMV

I pack my wet pack, blades, strop and whatever shaving gear I have in my suitcase and check it. This solves the blade problem for me.

When I fly I don't bother with a straight or DE and just pack a disposable with extra heads in my carry on. Just my concession to no hassle flying. Switched to digital from film for the same reason.

I put everything but the blades in my carryon. I take my Tech apart and keep it in a separate zippered plastic bag so they can expect it if needed. That way, I have my shaving kit with me even if the checked luggage pulls the Heahtrow Disappearing Act and you can still buy DE blades in larger pharmacies wherever you go. Been searched once (after going to a farming community, diesel fuel and fertilizer) and the DHS guy specifically asked me about the blades, to which I replied "I know how you guys are paranoid about this stuff so I put it in checked luggage", had a good laugh, he copped a feel (standard procedure once the explosive detector goes beep-beep) and I was on my way back to Canada

Not a thing if you like that sort of stuff, I never did.

I go old school prison style and hide it in my colon.... Makes the the flight a tad uncomfortable,but the shave is sublime....The hard part is getting the dirtybird scuttle out...
