Default i found my right setting on my Slim ..

got a Gillette Slim Adjustable in the mail so figured id use it tonight much heavier then my super speed , feels real nice in the hand )..
setting 1 seemed like not a clean shave , 2 was ok , 3 felt pretty good , 4 felt like i could really notice the blade , 5 ouch !!! took off half a beuty mark ( ugly mark on my face ) didnt get any pics for the COTD but the proof is still on my face ..lol.. so back to 3 i set it and off i went and finished that half with the 3 setting and and things turned out great ....lol..

the other half i used the straight , cant really feel any diff in the shave results as far as smoothness

How could you feel anything with that much blood on your hands ?
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

You can do what gooser did and start low and gradually work your way up. Seems wise to me . If you have experience using a DE I would suggest starting in the middle - 4 or 5 - which will give you a good idea where to go from there.

aa ? .. will the settings need to be adjusted per type of blade as well ?? i wondered cause today i used a "TREET" blade and the shave felt more aggressive on 3 , it felt like the $ store blades on setting 4 yesterday

Simple answer is yes. A Feather on setting 5 will behave a LOT differently than a Derby at the same level. What you are experiencing is normal. For that reason an inexperienced DE shaver might want to start a little lower, like setting 3, when trying a new brand of blade.
