Thanked: 21First DE shave, first BBS shave as well
Well I must say I was slightly intimidated this fine morning. After countless hours or reading and learning and reading and learning and hoping I don’t over think the shave I was preparing for. I should step back and paint the picture a bit better. Since none of my SR’s are actually shave ready and it will be a bit of time before I have them to that point(getting sent out this week) I figured why not try to transition to a DE from my usual 85 blade razor that I have been using. So I ordered a Edwin Jagger DE 87 and some altra blades. I knew there was our monthly flea market the first Sunday of every month (yesterday) and never know what I might find there or if I’d find a DE so I wanted to make sure that I had one available. After all the reading so many people wrote great things about this Fat Boy thing, sounds so cool, looks even better, but starting price on the bay was $35-$300+. I have my EJ but what the heck I can still look. As I wander the Flea market about to leave I look down and on the corner of a woman’s table laid 6 razors 4 DE and 2 SE, as I picked them up I noticed 3 of the 4 DE were vintage Gillette and low and behold the 4th was a Gillette Fat Boy, o joy what were the chances, it had to be fate. I took all 4 and paid the whopping price of $10. So back to this morning, I did my normal morning routine, hot water in the mug, let brush soak, hot shower for me, Kiehls face wash in the shower the rest of the typical shower stuff. Out of the shower a bit of art of shaving pre shave oil, MWF shave soap, my new Omega silvertip brush and the lather was on. My skepticism starts now, the Fat Boy was then loaded with a Astra razor blade and all that kept going through my head was no pressure, just let the weight of the razor do the work so that is what I did. Fat Boy set to 3, and simple first pass as I went I added a bit or pressure but not much,it was if the razor was singing to me. It was amazing, one pass WTG and one ATG AND I can honestly say it was my first DE shave and best shave of my life, not a single drop of blood or any irritation. I finished with some Thayers lemon aftershave and then some Art of Shaving lemon lotion(I love the smell of lemon in the morning) and I can finally say I have achieved my first every BBS shave.
Thanks for all the help and assistance, Ill need plenty more as I continue my journey.
Respectfully,
Christian
