    Default Head Shave...

    Hello Gents,
I am new to this site and have not been straight razor shaving too long. Starting to get it down and understand there is a lot to learn. My first razor is a hollow ground Solingen. I am satisfied with the shave. I really would like to start shaving my head. Any suggestions on a blade suitable for the head? I do not care about cost and want a quality product. I have been looking at Alex Jacques, Ali's Blade and Brian Brown to name a few. These razors are as scarce as they come. I am also wondering what a good weight would be. The razor mentioned above feels light to me, however it is the only straight I have shaved with. I know i have asked quite a few questions and I would appreciate any feedback. Zuffa.

I shave my head every day with a straight and love it.
Seems to me you are set on a heavier razor for your head-shave.
While i understand your thinking behind this, I feel it right to tell you that a basic 5/8 full hollow will work good too!

That said, a hefty custom, like you mention, is also a very competent tool for the job.

Most any of the custom makers will be able to provide you with stellar shavers
I have a whole lot of them, from most of the makers out there, and would recommend most of them in a heartbeat.
If I were to advice on any, Charlie Lewis, Joe Chandler, Max Sprecher, Robert Williams, Buddel and Tim Zowada are well worth looking into. As is Bryan Brown, Bob Allman and Philip Dobson

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Why not use the one you have? Your familiar with it. But if this is an excuse to by another straight I get it!

I can honestly say that any razor in good condition with a decent edge will shave your head. Some people think wedgey grinds are the way to go, but really it's hair versus edge, and edge wins no matter how much steel is behind it.

    Good luck!

HOW do you shave the parts of the head you can't see? In fact, how do you shave your head with any kind of razor?

It's like tying your shoe, do you really look anymore when you do it?

The parts you cannot see are done by feel. After a couple of times you don't even notice. I shave my head every day also, but only north to south. The thing that marks Birnando out as a men among men is that the crazy bugger does a south to north pass as well!!
