    Default Weck Sextoblade with guard

    Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding the guard on the Weck Sextoblade. I just picked up one of these and some Fromm blades and being new to straight shaving was looking at the guard as a set of training wheels.

My question is, Do you change the guard mid shave when in my case I want to shave the left side of my face or just try to shave with my right hand only?

Changing the guard seems slightly dangerous with wet soapy fingers and not changing hands isn't developing my straight shaving skill set.

Im going to feel pretty silly if there is a simple answer to this I am missing!

    Thanks,

    Joe

Your going to have to flip the guard no matter what. I use only my left hand to shave and when I use my weck I still need to flip the guard when changing sides. And why are your hands soapy and wet?

I have a similar Fromm Shavette that I bought many years ago when I was still in Straight Razor Basic Training. Initially I fumbled around with the guard but then just took it off. It's currently sitting in my junk drawer in the shave cave and hasn't been touched in forever. Configured this way the razor is a bare blade that is super aggressive and ridiculously sharp. It goes without saying it will bite you without much of an excuse but handled with care it delivers a second to none shave. Good luck.
The older I get, the better I was

Thanks for the encouragement. Sooner or later the guard will come off but until then, I like the safety net. I looked at it this morning without the guard and it looked a lot more intimidating. I figure a couple of weeks to build my confidence and then I can go on with the show.
