The answer for traveling?

Fortunately I am pre approved by TSA so they virtually don't check my things but you never can tell what will happen.

Dealing with TSA is always a crap shoot. I would not travel with a loaded "anything", be it a DE or Feather Artist. I have been questioned/detained over an empty Muhle DE and once over a stick of LaToja soap (they didn't like the outline they saw on the x-Ray). Nothing was confiscated and that was good. I just don't like having to go through all that "stuff". Traveling is problematic enough these days. No need to add anything to the process.

I always use a DE for carry on, and put it in the tray with my keys and other metal objects. The TSA guys seem to appreciate making their job easier because they can readily see it has no blade. DE blades are available at CVS, Walmart, Walgreens. If you are visiting friends it costs only $4 to mail a straight. I have a SRD paddle strop but do not carry it because I worry about it being confiscated.

I am also making the first trip only with carry-on since I got into straights. Luckily, it's a place I go quite frequently so I was just going to buy a shavette to leave there that way I wouldn't have to worry about getting a strop for there or anything and I can just pop in a fresh sharp blade every time I'm there.

Curious if anyone has had any trouble taking a stone on carry-on. I alway pack straights in the checked in luggage, but to reduce the weight I've often wanted to take the hone on board, but thought they might think it a possible weapon.

If you go tho the same place frequently, why not just leave a straight there while you are home...? You could mail it there the first time and leave it. If you could leave a shavett or DE I dont see why you couldnt leave a straight... :) They will look after it for you if you are a frequent returning customer.

It is funny that this thread came up as I just got back from being in Mexico for two weeks. I sure missed shaving with my straight razor.
