    Default Just when I think....

Question! I get some extremely good (BBS I dare say) shaves almost everytime I go 2 to 3 days between shaves. However, if I try to shave every day, and sometimes every other day...it's uncomfortable, irritating, and difficult to get close. Does anyone else experience this? It almost acts as though my razor is dull. Pulling, tugging, dang sure not fun. When I go a few days the shave seems to be pleasant and the razor miraculously becomes sharper. Why does that happen?

I have noticed that I if I am going to shave every day I must left out ATG pass. If I do ATG every day my skin gets irritated. I normally shave 2-3 per week and there is actually no reason for me to shave more often I have also noticed that when doing ATG you I try to have really small angle on blade.

My skin is too sensitive for shaving daily with any frequency but when I have managed to do it I have to settle for a 1-1/2 pass shave instead of a 3 pass. This usually means cutting out the initial WTG pass and reducing ATG as well. It also means accepting a shave that is not as close, presentable but not much else.

Sometimes you gotta throw in the towel or suffer the resulting irritation.

I am in the same boat as Ryan82. A shave every 3rd day is optimal for me. Every day is too much, even if it is only one pass.

Well I shave every day just because I enjoy it so much, apart from Sunday. Nothing religious just always chilled out on Sunday with no shave even when in the dark days of multi blade shaving. Monday's shave is always the best shave of the week always BBS when DE shaving over the last 3/4 years. Getting there with straight shaves and now I'm getting BBS most Monday's.

Just kind of a shot in the dark here...........
Do you have a soap "rotation", or do you always use the same one? Maybe the "good shaves" are all with particular soaps and not with others?

Yes, I wouldn't call it a rotation, I would call it more, what am I in the mood for at this moment. Seems regardless of the blade and soap I plan to use, it doesn't surprise me anymore when at the last second I change my mind and either use a different soap or blade.

That, is one place where the fun of this hobby is found in my opinion....

    Cheers!

edited to add: lately, for some reason, I've been shaving nearly everyday, just quick 1.5 pass shaves, but am just seeing what's it like, and must admit, am really enjoying it. Normally I'd shave 3 times a week, I've upped it to 5 or 6, and am really enjoying it...changes the game a bit when you don't technically need to shave, so the results seem to be more a consistent clean shave look and feel. Areas where you may have not done as close as you thought, now stand out and get shaved...and of course, it's great to be able to use more razors and different soaps.

When I started wet shaving I thought that given the condition of my skin (VERY sensitive) every day shaving has prohibited. Well I was so wrong, the problem was my prep. I used to just wash my face, now after washing my face I apply a couple of hot towels and a pre shave and I am good to go, no irritations whatsoever!!!
