    Sometimes you just need one.

After rebeveling my entire collection (all four of them) I have been shaving daily very comfortably.
After too many years of stretching a cartridge "for another week or so" in order to save a few dollars, I find it difficult to properly recognize a blade that is too dull.

Wow. Did you go through the whole process from re-setting the bevel to finish hone?
A lot of work, I am pleased that it all worked out. As for a simple test I use to check shave-readiness:
I use a piece of toilet paper (double-leaf soft tissue type, thinner and softer than kitchen tissue paper) and fold it loosely once (no sharp fold). Hold the fold beween thumb and index finger and make a gentle cut about 0.5" from my fingers. If it cuts smoothly and effortlessly then your razor is shave-ready apart from stopping. If the paper tears, do another round of pyramid.
I tried a razor testend this way without stropping, and that worked well. Stropping makes the shave just a tad smoother (50 strokes linen and 50 strokes leather).
This workes for me, if it workes for you, so much the better.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it well!

Luckily, none of them were too far gone to begin with -- just refused to get a good edge off CrOx and leather. Tried going to the 5-8-12 stones, but it wasn't helping anymore. Started back at the 1K and now it's a lot better.
