Well as to safety,
1- ensire you are aware of your surroundings, we dont want to slip or trip whilst shaving,
2- ensure you are aware of where people and pets are, we dont want any surprise visits startling us,
3- ensure you are aware of where your blade edge is when you arent shaving with it,
4- ensure you are aware of where the parts of the blade edge are that you arent using, toes and heels have a habit of biting you when you arent watching,
5, dont get complacent, i found that at about 6 months in i got a bit complacent, you will know if and when it happens, your face will become sore and bloody,
6, dont rush, just because you can get all the stubble, and you are comfortable with the strokes required doesnt mean you should try and speed up - it will happen on its own.

Yes. Thank you! Exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Interesting number 6 has been on my mind, how long the shave takes, I will erase it. Careful before speed makes sense; comfortable before close worked well. I bet 'careful before speed' will be the same. One through five all have analogs in safe weapons handling and use, and make good sense. Thank you.
Yep. Every razor is a loaded weapon, don't point the edge at any beard you don't intend to completely destroy, keep your razor closed, and your finger off of the tang, until ready to shave, know your face and surrounding areas before shaving.Quote:

There are infinite combinations of hones, strops, razor types, soaps, creams, aftershaves, etc. Once you're getting consistent results then you can start to introduce new things into the routine and you'll notice the small differences they make. If you're used to a 5/8 razor then find a 6/8 or 7/8 and see how it changes your shave, stropping, and honing technique. Even different grinds can have subtle effects.
