Well two things have come true in the couple of weeks since I posted this. The cuts, but for your amusement, I have cut (or nicked) two fingers and both thumbs. Yeah, I know dumb... Better than my face I suppose...Quote:

So this phase seems to be all about subtle changes. I have varied grips a little, angle a little, and changed the strokes I'm using a little.
Where phase one was just learning to get a good comfortable shave, now it is all about minor changes and optimization. I'm also working much better with my strops.
Phase two seems to be all about subtle improvement, or as coryschmidt said: small differences. This is a much nicer place to be than the first 50 shaves!
Today all my shaves are comfortable and experiments run between DFS and BBS. I'm beginning to appreciate the differences in soaps and lather more than previously. I am getting a much better handle on the thumb pad test for sharpness. After getting my new strops well conditioned, they work great and no cuts or flakes. I can feel the difference good stropping makes in the thumb pad test.
I really appreciate all the advice from those of you who are well ahead of me on this path.
I'm still amazed as the fifth month into this adventure, I am still looking forward to shaving!
Right now I'm working hard on getting efficient clean shaves on my dimpled chin. Cleanly shaved in the smallest number of strokes is the game at the moment.
So far a low angle, no pressure, and a very sharp blade seems to yield the best results.
