Noooooo!
Say it ain't so amigo..
I'm sorry to hear that....any thought to simply storing what you have somewhere safe until a more suitable time?
If your collection isn't very big a fairly large strongbox/safe with a good lock and keep the key on your person at all times (ona chain around your neck).. Unless your youngster is a demolition expert or lock picker you should be able to continue using your razors. Make sure there is dessicant in the strongbox.
Can't you keep just one?
Mike
If you just need a place to store them for safety reasons, then ship them to me & I'll see that they are kept proper till you want them back.
If it's funding needed for something else, then let us know,,, something can be worked out.
So are you looking for someone to look after your collection for a while?
If it's for financial reasons, I can understand that, my little boy has turned into quite the wallet parasite. :) What ever the reasons may be, please do yourself a favor and don't go back to cartridges....DE or SE is the way to go. Best wishes.
Is a member in Florida,he posted above.Runs the Hirlau Razor conservatory,A great guy and a suppository of Knowledge.
PM him,he can help:))
My insurance company calls me every 6 months asking if my son has got his driver's license yet,,, those B#$&^%@s want an extra $200.00 a month as a teen driver. I've been dreading this for 17 years,,,:(
The worst part is in the last 2 weeks ive picked up 17 more razors. My collection has gotten very large. Many are works in progress.
I have a large de-humidified gun safe in which I will store them....taking them out only to see if they still pass the shave test and then kissing them goodnight.
Sorry to hear about the circumstance at hand LT. You will have help available from your brothers here to keep your wet shaving gear together for you if that is what you need.
I know you Harold,,,, ,,, you'll throw them right into the rotation, as all your's are vacationing in the gun safe,,:rofl2:,
Said before , it's good advise. You keep guns in a safe ,and it's perfectly safe for your razors also, I don't even have kids around but it's where I keep mine , because the dehumidifier is a plus for me. Good luck. Tc
That's to bad. My son will be 5 soon and my razors have always been in plain site, so they've become a common everyday fixture. He'll ask about them once in awhile and I'll always tell him they are very sharp and can hurt you, you can look at them but don't touch. Plus he has his own DE and WECK straight razor that I set him up with about three years ago now (where's the time go) so that helps. We just moved and he was asking where they were at (still packed up somewhere) Poor kid needs to shave! lol
I'd lock them up in a safe when not in use and continue to use them. I'm not sure what I would do if I had to give all mine up, probably grow an epic beard...
i would guess you would need to let them go for financial reasons. I sympathize. Kids are great but they sure have a way of bringing up surprising expenses.
As someone with a few razors in my own collection I can sympathise.
That said, they are only shaving tools, kids trump that every day of the week.
If you just need to keep them out of reach then a pelican case might be a long term storage option.

You can lock it, put some large packs of silica gel in there to keep things dry (not for ivory). And you should be able to keep the case somewhere where is out of the way. Even in a roof space or basement since the peli case will keep everything dry and safe.
I have an identical case to the one pictured that I'm currently fixing up as a long term storage solution. Not because of children but because my collection is now getting to the stage where I have a lot of razors in boxes sat by the computer. And everyone that comes into the PC room wants to open a box and take a look. In its self it's not a problem, But I then have to go through the collection looking for fingerprints since I don't store them oiled, And the odd fingerprint has come back as a rust spot.
Well I understand that this is for financial reasons , this is only a hobby, some things are a want some are a need . My suggestion would be just to hang into them . My reason is Everytime I've had significant financial issues ( and the last 10 years it's been more often then not) I've contemplated getting rid of collections of things I felt important . I had a huge comic book collection that I liquidated and by the time I was done the financial trouble sorted itself with out the additional sale funds. If u really like sr shaving and you will end up buying again anyway. Good luck friend
Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Had to sell off quite a few things at one time due to circumstances and looking back do not miss these "things" as much as I thought I would. They are only things and can be replaced when circumstances are better. Hope it all works out in the long run for you.
Bob
You can always get more stuff down the road. When my youngest Daughter went off to UCSB,I had to sell my car collection,My Gun Collection and a hugh amt of machinery just to swing $2600/a month tuition (dorm inc.) It all paid off, Now my wife and I am Poor:( the Kid just got her masters in nursing, makes a hugh amt of Money,Try as I might I cannot get her to pay us back:(
So a new home has been finished. I picked up this machinist box on the weekend. Stripped off all the brass and polished it up (that inclueds all the screw heads) Sanded it down and refinished. Ripped out all the nasty green felt and put in a dark red felt. It measures 14" tall 16"long and 9" deep.
Sorry to leave you all hanging, but it was fun.
A gun safe would solve you problem. If you are looking for buyers im interested
A lovely refinish on that there machinist box Colin.
Think it's a little to crowded though, should probably divest of all those French points as you call them.
I will lovingly rebrand them with a bit o blarney into Irish points..
;-)
All kidding aside, we need to get together for a blade buffing session. I have three now that are out of their scales looking for some rubbin..
Good show, Trillium! :rofl2:
Well that was just evil. Making us think you had to get rid of them. Also getting the hopes up for some thinking they would buy some. Just plain evil!!! I'm impressed. Wish I thought of that. Lol
Nice work on the tool chest (never call it a box)
You're a bad man :D
The case looks great, And looks like you need a few more razors to fill it.
