Default Recommendation for pre-shave/cream/aftershave for acne-prone skin

    Hey all,

I am just starting out with a straight razor (6 shaves under the belt) and I find that I end up with itchy skin all day (I am guessing this is what you call razor burn). I have acne-prone skin and I've been using the sandalwood scented AOS products (pre-shave oil, cream and moisturizing balm) although the last shave I did without pre-shave oil because it felt like it was slowing down the razor too much, causing me to nick myself.

Anyway, I would love to hear any recommendations on products that could work better for me. Thanks!

Switching to a witch hazel astringent or toner for aftershave might help. I would stay away from pre-shaves that are oil based for sure.

My son has that problem, and he tried, and was successful with Jack Black Bump Fix, works like a charm on acne and ingrown hair, razor bumps, etc. http://smile.amazon.com/Jack-Black-R...black+bump+fix

proraso makes a really nice, non-oily, preshave, an nivea has wonderful, non-oily, aftershave balms, I stay away from oils, I'd break out for sure... tried one once and hated it

For a preshave I swear by this stuff,,, light clean scent , not oily, washes off easy,,, raises the whiskers,

You might also try switching to any unscented soap/cream and do a cold water shave and rinse.
