Kind of intimidated to go back to a new, super sharp razor
When I started straight razor shaving in August, i bought two Hart Steel Bruce Gregory Western Kami's. Aesthetically, I thought they were so cool, they got me into straight razor shaving and they seemed like a good place to start. My plan was to shave with one, and when it comes time to send it out for honing, switch to the other. It turns out, I LOVE my razor and have enjoyed 5 months of fantastic shaves with just daily stropping. As a newbie, I took a few hits, but as I broke the razor in and my technique improved, my nicks were becoming a thing of the past. However, there comes a time to hone.
So, tomorrow, I will be breaking in my "brand new" Kami #2 and to be honest, I'm not looking forward to it. I came to believe that a razor can be unnecessarily sharp and a little breaking in makes for a better shave. But then again, maybe my technique when I started was the problem and a sharp razor will be a joy to shave with now that I have over a 100 shaves under my belt. We'll see!
