Thanked: 72Kind of intimidated to go back to a new, super sharp razor
When I started straight razor shaving in August, i bought two Hart Steel Bruce Gregory Western Kami's. Aesthetically, I thought they were so cool, they got me into straight razor shaving and they seemed like a good place to start. My plan was to shave with one, and when it comes time to send it out for honing, switch to the other. It turns out, I LOVE my razor and have enjoyed 5 months of fantastic shaves with just daily stropping. As a newbie, I took a few hits, but as I broke the razor in and my technique improved, my nicks were becoming a thing of the past. However, there comes a time to hone.
So, tomorrow, I will be breaking in my "brand new" Kami #2 and to be honest, I'm not looking forward to it. I came to believe that a razor can be unnecessarily sharp and a little breaking in makes for a better shave. But then again, maybe my technique when I started was the problem and a sharp razor will be a joy to shave with now that I have over a 100 shaves under my belt. We'll see!

I can't speak for you, but I keep my razors at that same "fresh from the hone" state at all times. I touch up before they get too far down the road. I have adjusted quite comfortably to a very sharp edge. I enjoy the efficiency of a freshly honed razor. But yes, a little too much pressure and that bay rum will make you pay. But this is a YMMV thing. I personally prefer the freshly honed edge.

Nothing to worry about. It will most likely be more comfortable then the one you've been using.

I understand the fear of switching to an unknown after getting to know a razor! The solution is to buy lots of razors and have a rotation
But on a serious note, I am sure you will be fine! Your "sharper" razor will be smoother and more comfortable to shave with, you will fall into a routine with it just as you did with your other one!

Thanked: 56I've been using the same razor for a few months, and decided to switch it up recently. What I learned was that the pervious razor was definitely due for a hone! You will be happy making the switch.

Good luck HopChugger. I personally like a freshly honed edge. YMMV! There's only one way to get used to different edges... buy more razors! No such thing as too many!

I like the first shaves off a freshly honed razor. It reminds me just how little pressure is needed. Good luck and happy shaving, HopChugger!

Ive got 50 some in rotation , and some that are waiting to join. Once I restore, clean or rescale them and hone them back to life.[emoji5]Mike
