I guess it was only a matter of time...
Now that my shaves are finnally getting decent, and the whole experience has become enjoyable, I am finally beginning to relax a bit. Well, I may have relaxed a bit too much, because tonight I had my first shaving accident.
I had just finished my left side and I was looking in the mirror evaluating the job I had done, while at the same time, I was switching my razor between hands. I guess I was a little too focused on my image in the mirror, because during the hand-off I grabbed the blade. Not realizing this, I though, "hmm, that felt funny". Looking down at my finger, it didn't seem so funny. Its odd how a little water spreads out the blood and makes it look worse than it is -- I thought I had hit an artery! There was blood all over my fingers and razor!
A quick dip into the sink cleared up the drama and revealed a cut about a third of an inch long on my index finger, and about an eighth of an inch deep. This was certainly no cut artery, but I was still amazed at how deep the cut was for such little contact with the blade. I had only bearly grabbed it, and I made no sliding motion along the edge. Just a slight pressure against the blade had done this. Amazing.
Its funny how I had come to think of the blade as harmless. Afterall, it took such great effort to keep it sharp enough to pop the hairs off my face. With all the difficulty honing, I had almost come to think of it as dull. Well... its not dull ;)
