Thanked: 0What do you do when you cut yourself?
Dumb question but I’m sure some of your guys have been there. This morning I have several nicks on my face and one pretty bad cut. My questions are: 1) do you wait a week or so before shaving again? 2) do you switch to an electric razor for a while? 3) or should I just give it up and stick a SR when my face clears up. I’m 83 and know that could be a problem but i love the all the aspects of shaving with a SR. it’s my hobby like most of you and i have all the tools to do my thing. Help me with this dumb question if you can.

If I get a nick, the old piece of toilet paper to stop the bleeding, and then Lynn Abrams mentioned a great trick, and it works well for me.
I actually gave myself a nice slice, first time in years a couple of weeks ago...styptic pencil is of course a good tool, I find it doesn't work that well though, stings, but doesn't necessarily stop the bleeding like s corner of toilet paper.
When the bleeding stops, I do what Lynn suggested and put a dab of Polysporin on the cut, keeps it clean, and it heals very quickly, and more importantly, very cleanly...no scars or blemishes.

Thanked: 250I've only had one real bad cut in my life when I sneezed mid-stroke. IIRC it happened back in 1976. That cut, on my chin, required a gauze pad and tape. I shaved around it for a week or so until the scab fell off. Like Spendur, on small nicks I grab the brush and plaster on some soap then shave right over them. My friend, at 83 and shaving with a straight, you deserve an award.........so here's a big thumbs up for you.

I usually bleed. but I,ll knock on wood and say my nicks and cuts have gone away over the last couple of years,, just slow down and you wont have to worry. if the blade is properly sharp, and your stretching the skin and using the right angle, its really kinda hard to cut yourself. a lack of attention does it most of the time. or when your new trying to take on too much at one time Tc

I tried super glue one time on one that wasn't bad but just wouldn't stop weeping. Like the top of a pimple. I used super glue for archery fletching and it was a little old....
As the picture shows it worked but not pretty. I had much fun at archery leagues that night! It worked and no scar but I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanked: 292About a year ago, I got a rather nasty nick at the edge of my upper lip where it joins the stache area. I was using a DE for the shave rather than a straight. I decided that it would be best not to shave my stache area until the nick healed completely. By the time it healed, I had a decent looking mustache that I decided to keep. I will keep it through Movember, but may shave it off before the end of the year.
