Default Car camping and straight razor shaving

    Hay all
I'm looking forward to a 3 week car camping trip in Arizona in a few days. About drying a razor after use, would closed in a pouch be ok or does it have to be open? I've made strop covers, and am thinking keeping them hanging from the seatbelt pivet.
How hot can shumate black handle toungsteel get?

    Any thoughts about this venture?

The more you can do to keep the blade exposed to the air, the better
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

What are you keeping the razors in?
I know some use toothbrush travel containers - if something like that is used you could drill some ventilation holes in it then just wipe the razor dry and put in the container.
If it is well dried with a tissue or such it will be fine in a closed container anyway.
Dry Arizona weather will keep the car warm and dry.

Keep it as dry as possible and then oil the blade.

Are you planning to shave at night? Then you could leave it on the dash until morning.

If you plan on shaving in the morning then you could shave first and leave it out until you pack up camp. Then oil it...

    Fun thoughts.

As a general rule if I am on a car camping trip I don't shave.

Although using the side morror on your door is interesting!

    Hay all, thanks!
Shaving in the evening is a good idea, also will bring the oil. I found this cotton thing at the thrift shop. How about open on the dash?we have a sun shade. I was thinking of taking a mirror with me.

    Don't over think it.

Dry it off oil it and put it away.

Your going to be in Arizona.... Its a dry heat.

Wipe it off, keep out of direct sunlight and excessive heat. Take an extra razor, maybe a barbers hone. The strop sock is a perfect idea for out there, might get a dust storm.

Even better buy a DE and use it for a few days.

Or take a stainless steel straight razor (plus a small bottle of Ballistol).
One of my preferred choices for overnight trips, the other being a Feather AC.

And yes, great suggestion - that one about not over-thinking it…

    Hay all
Trip update. I've hade some good shaves and it seems that razors dull faster than at at home. I Wash my face and brush before shaving but still. The dust that I feel on the dash feels like 1000 grit and I think my facial hair is tougher out here.
When you all feel grit on the stone do you just Wash it again and keep going or do you think about starting again with the refresh? The 4 k stone felt a bit more gritty and the 8 k never got as smooth as home under dripping water. Next time I will try sitting in the car with the windows up and misting everything before starting.
    Any thoughts?
