I found that info 3 years ago when I first started. He has no interest in hearing anything from anyone about shaving.

Funny, I swear that somewhere (it wasn't that site) in my hunger to absorb all this is straight razor related, I thought I read something where a 90 degree angle was recommended and I thought that sounded absolutely wacky.

Has anyone else ever heard that maybe in some daft circles at some point in time that was recommended?

What puzzles me only a bit less is that I KNOW I've read in an old published Robeson sales brochure, Robeson recommended to shave with the razor absolutely flat against the face. No spine lift at all. And that wasn't just for wedges from what I recall.

Someday I will be posting a WTB for a nice Robeson "The Razor That Fits Your Face".

Actually, while I was learning my basic angles last night during my first shave, I had to start with the blade flat against my face (my shaking gets bad sometimes) and I still managed to cut some hair, although it wasn't overly close of a shave.

I'd imagine you'll still "shave"...but not anywhere near close.

His prices seem ridiculous too.

Usually wedges are used at a steeper angle (or so I thought) more like
40-45 degrees. Not 90 and not flat!

You'll notice whenever they have a scene in a movie where a guy is using a straight invariably its always at a 90 degree angle. And you know everything you see in the movies is fact.

That's even worse than the standard advice of "Never shave against the grain". Makes me wonder why they even bothered to post any advice at all.

The idea is to scrape? Well hell, I've got perfectly good asphalt outside, I think I'll lather up and go rub on the parking lot. Even with a freakin' cartridge razor you don't scrape (at least not like that).

Really? :thinking: That's why I cut myself: it wasn't my technique, it was because my soap wasn't slick enough.

Um, you mean you're NOT supposed to use a 90 degree pose? Boy, that might explain some of the not so BBS shaves I've been getting since I started this madness last year! Probably also explains why I haven't cut myself yet. I think I'll take up knitting. At least then I can get hands on training from my Gammy!

Reminds me of my first foray into str8 shaving. I bought a blade from an antique shop & realized it needed to be honed--and chips removed from the edge... I took it to my local knife shop (who advertized themselves as "sharpening" str8s. It came back with scratches all over the blade and one chip had not been completely removed. (They said something about using a machine for it...)

The shave: :cen :cen The blade was "knife-sharp" but no more. I gave up in less than a week! Fortunately I later found this place and got a properly honed blade to shave with. The shave now? :):)

when I first decided to get into straight razors, I almost bought my entire kit from this place, thank God I came across EM's place and ClassicShave and got good stuff from them.. I also got good advice from here and B&B, with most members having posted questions I've had and others having answered them.

It makes you wonder how many people sadly take this guy's advice and give up. Kudos to you for keeping at it.

This is the downside of info by Google. There is nothing to indicate the quality of the source and there is seldom "peer review."

A friend of mine was told the same advice my a supposed long time straight razor user, to use a 90 degree angle. I asked him why he would even try such a thing and his reply was that this guy seemed so sure of himself. Damn
Anyway I quickly sent him down the proper path and he now enjoys a good shave.
I really wonder where this 90 degree angle came from in the first place?

I've heard people say that the 90 degree thing seems to show up whenever someone's using a straight in a film or TV show.

I need dish soap for my shave.. it should be reallly thick as that is the best.. and lets see.. get my razor that I sharpened on the grindstone at a 90 degree angle.. now to start the shave keeping it at a 90 degree angle.. OH wait.. I need three rolls of TPaper.. and about 5 2x2 gauze... that should do it.. now did he say to rewet?? hmm o.k. now for the scrapping of the face.. One cut half my cheek is gone, second stroke hmm more of my face is missing, third stroke, just cut one of the muscles on my jaw bone, bleeding now have to stop and use my 2x2 bandage,,, What a moron... :roflmao :roflmao :roflmao

How about that one article that said ONLY shave ATG? Yeah, just start with 3 days of growth and slide that puppy right up your cheek. With the right soap, you should be fine. I can see my sink filling with blood right now.
