First cut... and it's a good one!

Well, the moment that all newbies dread has finally arrived. A good cut on the face. I was literally on my second to last stroke of the entire shave when I felt the blade bite into my upper lip. I was trying to finish off the last few stragglers underneath my nose. As soon as it happened I knew it was a good one. It bled for a good 10 minutes despite my styptic pencil. It's finally stopped, but is going to leave a little scab. Maybe this will give birth to the scar that attracts my future wife? :hmmm: :D

well now its out of the way and you will be more relaxed kinda like the first scratch on a new car.
Hang in there maybe a good time to grow a mustache tho.

I've never had a bad cut, but I still wonder to myself how much difference a pencil actually makes

The pencil was great for making my eyes water. Didn't do that much for the cut.

I would take pics of the cut, but my camera is borked at the moment. I tried with my phone, but the pictures were all blurry. You'll just have to take my word for it.

Good advice there. Keep away from that area for a bit, it may minimise the chance of scarring.

Did you wet the styptic pencil first?

I had a rather nice little cut last night myself. I stopped the shave for a moment, whipped out the trusty styptic, wet it, dabbed it on the laceration (OOoooooh tyhat feels good:cry: ), and it stopped bleeding pretty much right away. However, it was not such a deep cut.

Yes, it was wet before using. I tried it several times, but it just kept bleeding. The scab is already gone, so I doubt a scar will show up.

If it does, we want to see it too

So, tell the truth... Did you get a Hitler scab? :P

I'd keep vaseline (or anyother ointment you have) on the forming scab, That will keep it moist during the healing process.

I would suggest something with Shea Butter and Vitamin E in it. The vaseline may keep the area from breathing well. YMMV and all that...

Well after taking some amusment from this thread yesterday I whent home and had a good shave... Until I got to my chin. I have been trying to break the habit of moving my chin (to get a tighter contour) while putting the blade to it. Well I wasn't paying attention and "Doink". Took a nice fillet off the front center of my chin. About a 4mm circle bled pretty good, but due to some nerve damage didn't feel a thing.

Then again, it could be nice to show new guys what a bad cut is, and what kinds of cuts are just the norm. Sorta what to worry about and what to just forget about.

Just my 2 cents. ((Side thought, Is it just me or is there not a "cents" key anymore?))

Mmmmmm I say straight razors get a bad enough rap as it is, I agree it would be off putting to newcomers to see carnage.

I think we can all agree this is not a hobby for the faint of heart in the first place. If you faint at the sight of blood don’t even think about a straight, stick to electric or let the cat lick your face. We have all cut ourselves and to think that it will never happen is foolish! Cutting yourself is one of the things it is important to talk about because if we sweep it under the rug and pretend it never happens, then the new guys will have a false sense of security. The other side of the coin is that if you know it’s going to happen and see the damage, you’ll know that it’s no big deal and you’ll live. We are afraid of what we don’t know. Not talking about it or showing pictures of it won’t change the fact that we all have and will cut ourselves.

So reach down with you left hand and grab your balls. With your right hand, man up and take some pictures!!!!!

I received a very embarassing cut today. As I was looking in the mirror, I reached down with the sink to rinse my razor which I was holding a little too close to the toe. I got a good one on my finger! Feel the pride in cutting your face. There is no glory in a finger cut.

phew got that out, gents, this is a hobby using a lethal weapon, it happens, and the better the honed razor...the nicer the cut feels......lol...its only the soap that stings..hehe...i caught my spike point under my ear on a spot that had appeared, after a smooth glide, so it does happen. Its hiding the bugger thats hard....

So all you newbies listen up...DONT WORRY ABOUT IT...IT WILL HAPPEN, JUST REMEMBER TO STOP QUICKLY...AND HAVE AN ALUM BLOCK OR STYPTIC PENCIL HANDY...( and only cry when noone is looking)...lol

However I admit I don't enjoy it much. Hey shave commando and you will always remember to pay attention.:eek:

I have a scar on my knuckle from the heel of my blade. I was trying to stretch the skin, and i didnt watch the whole length of the blade.


It's kinda cute actually, I took a liking to it.
