There are special sausages favored by those who liek extra tallow in their shave soap. Rubbing them on your face just prior to shaving (or eating them) is a custom in some Eastern European countries!

I'm a whatever works where I am guy. I'm still too new to have a good grip on my own style, but I can say that, when I CAN use the heel, I like it better; it feels like I have more fine control down close to my grip.

With that said, I am wondering if I should ask this here or start my own thread: Why are western straights so LONG? I mean, the only place the whole length of the blade really comes into play is on the cheeks, unless you're really good at your neck I guess...and the added cutting room doesn't seem to balance out the loss in maneuverability you get over a shorter blade. Even Lynn finds it easier to use a shorter blade (or so I gathered form the "fewer nicks under 3 inches" post)...so why aren't there more of them?

    Just curious...

When I started using a straight, I shaved with the front third, occasionally using the middle. Now, after some experience & different razors, I use the whole edge & the toe particularly round the top lip. Cheeks & side of the throat are good for entire blade strokes I find.

    Default zamboni

the vote option with the zamboni is hillarious! while sometimes its kinda like that, ummm, ya wouldn't have much of a face left if you weren't careful!!

I tend to use different parts of the blade for individual areas because of angle and blade control issues...its definitely a learning process, part of the draw....

I use what ever part of the blade I need to, but I prefer to use the front 1/3rd I think.

I use the full blade for my cheeks and neck and probably the last half most when doing the up strokes at the bottom of my neck. definitely the toe gets the most time off though.

I also have a goatee. I use the heel when I'm doing WTG passes along the goatee line (I shave with both hands).

JUST GOT ANOTHER BLADE THAT HAS A SMILE AND TEND TO USE THE MIDDLE, THE TOE AND HEAL IN THE SMALL TIGHT SPOTS, DEPENDING ON WHAT SIDE i'M ON.
