First Japanese Str8 Shave in the books

Well. I got it honed and took it for a ride this morning.

I must say that facial gymnastics have nothing on the twister that your hand and arm has to do to keep the correct edge on your face.

I received a 7 out of 10 shave with one small cut.

I will continue down this path until I get it right.

Once you get full competency with the Japanese razor you will know without a doubt what the best shaving razor system in the world really is.

Actually I find my Japanese razor much more versatile and easier to move around my face. The relative ease of setting a perfectly flat bevel and the ridiculous sharp but smooth edge I can get from the steel is a nice bonus too.

Here is the queer thing.

I had a Japanese Sashimi knife with a single sided edge and I could use both sides of the blade.

With this one I can only use one side.

Did I screw this up or is this a normal function of the blade?

Well, I don't know about the kitchen knife but Japanese Traditional Straights have asymmetric blades and are designed to be used with one side and they are right handed razors to boot.
