I had always been a fan or experimenting with various creams, soaps, etc while straight shaving, and recently tried something new. Rather than a shaving 'oil', either on the face, or mixed in soaps, I tried a cream skin moisturizer - Cetaphil - which is cheap, and recommended by Dermatologists to help moisturize and clear-up skin issues.
I applied a liberal dose - very liberal - to my face/beard by hand, and then used a Badger brush and good glycerine soap over the top of it. This was right after a shower, but NO hot towel.
Blade virtually "skated" over the skin, which had been plumped-up anyway from the moisturizer. Rather than laying on top of the skin/beard, this moisturizer soaks right into the skin and facial hair!
A wonderful discovery after a long layoff!
Best to all -
