No i was using a SR for decades before Lynn founded the yahoo group and later SRP.... this place did lead me in search of the perfect edge and the spending of thousands and thousands and then even more thousands in the pursuit thereof.
To date my best shavers are from Marshes&Shepherd, Mappin lancet edge, Livi, Williams and a dozen or so Bokers. For the money the vintage Bokers win out.
found straight razor shaving before SRP. liked the casino here...why did it go away?
to me the gems on this site are the mainstay members who form a network of support wrt restorations and acquisitions.
Absolutely, When i started, i did about three weeks of research, mainly on SRP. This research and the overwhelming loyalty, and friendliness of SRP convinced me that i was making a good decision. I just wanted to thank everyone here, i feel like you are all family and i can rely on you for any advice, or help.
PS. after collecting 10 razors, restoring and customizing many, i have finally decided to get myself a brand new razor (well i asked for one for Christmas). MMM shiny

I think it's back on now though :D
SRP wasn't the reason I started, but it was the deciding factor of would I....
SRP was definitely the reason I got started.. Now if only I could remember the motivation for starting to look at using straight razors.
Nope. I had been straight shaving since 1994, and I found & joined the Yahoo Straight Razor Place in 2003, and joined here in 2007.
It is very interesting to me how approaches vary. I do one pass, get great results. 7 minutes each morning from atart to finish, including washing my face & stropping. Two passes for weddings, etc.
I strop my razor every day and hone every 10 months or so (rotating 3, sometimes 4, razors).
I can see the joy many take in honing to perfection, skin prep, multiple passes, etc.
For me, I love shaving with straights, but I keep it simple.

I would say SRP definitely played a role in my taking up the straight razor. I had had the interest for several years, but never felt I had enough working knowledge to switch successfully. SRP definitely gave me the confidence to try, and plus all the talk of perfect shaves and pictures of gorgeous razors definitely pushed me over the edge and into the abyss.
When I started this site didn't exist yet though the Yahoo site did. Unfortunately for me by the time I discovered it I had already blundered my way through the learning process and I have the scars to prove it.
