jesus. it sounds like he is frying a turkey the way that thing crackles. brass ones, he has.
I guess he needed the strength of that knife to combat his dry beard. Have a look at his other videos though. Some of them are quite interesting: apparently you can strop on cardboard as its mildly abrasive. He even manages to hone a knife on a cinder-block and gets it to... cut an apple.
Hmm and they call straights cut-throats... did you all see him shaving with a machete also?
I have a new hero -- ME -- because I'm not stupid enough to try shaving with a knife or a machete like in one his other videos.
Not stupid enough yet... let me think about it
Man, I wonder if he put on some after shave after he got done?
I'm never complaining again.
i was going to make a video shaving with my throwing tomahawk but this guy beat me to it.:boohoo:
Check out his other videos, there is one where he makes a japanese style kitchen knife in 30 minutes, starting from bar stock.

Maybe it's the quality of the steel but I just can't get my kitchen knives to pop hairs off my arm :(
FAR EAST!!!!
did you see how hard we was pressing???
what a freak!
i'm scared now
My wife really shows no interest in anything regarding my shaving lifestyle, minus my good looks post-shave. However, she was entranced by this guy just wiping that beard right off his face with a knife. That dude is hardcore through-and-through. Many things made be laugh in this video, namely the fact that there's classical music playing in the background. Also, when he says, "How about that for a fashion statement? Maybe I should go want down Main Street." He didn't say, "Maybe I should show this off at that mall."
No, this gentleman sounds like he's from the WAY back woods of Minnessotta. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
How is this possible? One pass WTG only. Hardly any soap. No rash after the shave. Does anyone question if this may have been faked with glued on hair?
WOW and i was worried about my technique....
After I strop I often test the edge by shaving my cheek with no more prep than a little water splashed on my face and I can tell you that I get no razor burn on my cheek and it is smooth. some might call it BBS. I also only do one pass and do a little touch up on the neck and upper lip. The touch up is a water pass only (no soap).
I am certain that I can get a clean comfortable shave with water only. the only area that worries me would be the chin. Maybe I'll try and report back when I do.
After I had knee surgery a couple of years back, I grew a beard for 3.5 months. It was heavy and between 1.5 and 2 inches long. I shaved it off in one pass without any trimming before hand, using my Joseph Rodgers 6/8. A little cleanup on a second pass and I was as good as new.
I have no problem believing he took that scruff off with the knife.
Matt
I own one of Murray's knives (and have a custom kamisori about to be forged by him) and one day out of boredom I took the kitchen knife through my honing progression and stropping. It silently erased hair from my arm then, and even after I have cut several dozen carrots, celery, onions, and garlic it still does.
Good ol' carbon steel!
Been tempted to shave with it a time or two, but it hasn't happened. I'm fine with that.
I guess the jury's in.
