Default Tought it would pass, guess not....

I seem to have developed a rather bad shaving habit.I love to shave with a straight(or a DE)But, I shave much to often (2 times a day) And I don't spend enough time on prep. This has resulted in a rather bad looking skin.
Lots of ingrown hairs, bumps and razorburn.
So I have decided to take meassures to get my smooth skin back.

So far I have figured out the following:

I can shave everyday (thank god)
-if I use a hot towel WITH lather.I have to do this, even if I shower first.
-I cannot shave ATG.This part really sucks, guess I have to develop a way to get total bbs with only xtg....

For those of you with sensitive skin and beard of steel, I feel your pain.

PS: I allways tell my friends what an amazing thing straightrazor shaving is.I wonder what they are thinking when they see my Freddy nightmareish skin...

Never skip on prep! We thought you knew that by now!

I have had to give up on BBS due to ingrowns. It doesn't matter if i get there without ATG. If i get that close i'll look like cr@p a few day's later. I've taken to shaving a little less close, but more often to combat the buggers.

I'm one of those people. I find a little prep goes a long way... also with light enough pressure, you should be able to go atg without irritation. Try giving your face a few days rest (i know its hard), and then have a go with as little pressure as possible.

    good luck

Try putting on a little proraso while you shower - bliss!

Proraso is the ONLY reason I can go ATG and shave every day with no problem. I do however only shave every other day. I don't see any reason to shave daily as my beard is barely visible after 18-24 hours. I thought all the proraso talk was all hype until I tried it. Now I never use anything else. (Unless I just want to try something new..Then I might do 1 shave with another shaving cream or soap, but I have yet to find anything that comes even close to proraso)

    Kristoffer,

Are you shaving twice a day because you NEED to or because you WANT to? If your answer is the latter (and I am of the mind that no one NEEDS to shave twice a day) then it's simple: let your face heal up and only shave once per day.

Like Ryan said, once a day or even every other day for a while until your skin gets better. Some times too much of a good thing isn't so good.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have pretty sensitive skin too. Normally, I only shave downwards (mostly WTG), I only do a single pass, and I shave every other day at most.

No, I don't need to shave twice every day.But first there is the morning ritual, and then the evening when I come home from work all dirty.
What can I say? I simply love shaving

For those of you that talk about proraso, are you talking about the cream or the pre\after shave?
Actually Proraso is one of the very few well known brands that I still have yet to try.

I was talking about the pre/post shave balm (which I'd only use pre-shave). Put it on before your shower and then put on some more before you lather up. You can even stick a layer of skin food on top of that. Sort of a pre-shave club sandwich.

Proraso is great and very refreshing, especially during warmer months but a lot of people find it a bit too cold for their liking. It's a bit like Vicks menthol rub (the stuff you used to rub on your chest when you had a cold).
